Zoloft: yay or nay?

TW: mention of ED, PPD and PPA I’ve been struggling pretty hard with PPD and PPA so I reached out to a psychiatrist, and she wants to put me on Zoloft. I’ve heard mixed things but wanted to ask if anyone here has taken it and if so, how did you react? How did your body react as well? I had an ED when I was younger and still to this day have problems with my body image, especially when it comes to the weight I’ve gained during pregnancy. My husband says that I’m sexy and he loves looking at me because my body is a testament to what I went through to bring our sweet son into the world but I can’t stand my stomach and my extra fat. I’m scared that if Zoloft causes weight gain that it will only exacerbate my depression and send me into a tail spin. Pls help lol. Pic so I don’t get lost in the sauce

I’m currently on Zoloft! My dr put me on it after having my son for lots of mental health issues. It has been helping me a lot. Everyone reacts differently, but it hasn’t caused any weight gain for me and it helps immensely with all my mental health issues.

I took Zoloft for a year after I had my son to treat PPD. It did nothing for my pre-existing anxiety. I didn't experience weight gain and haven't heard of it causing weight gain. It could be a rare side effect. You'll never know how you react personally until you try the medication. I'm glad your husband is like mine, respecting and honoring your mom bod. Loving your temporary body and boosting your mood with all of the tools will get you further in transforming into the next part of your journey. When we focus on the negative, we get stuck or go in the opposite direction we want. I believe the right medication at the right dose for you is just part of the change you seek. There are many other tools at your disposal. Message me, if you have any other questions. Good luck!

I’ve tried it. Definitely gained weight and had an increase in anxiety. Wellbutrin worked best for me and it’s an appetite suppressant

Every woman in my family has taken Zoloft. We all hate it. It made me WAY worse. I didn’t feel anything so I didn’t care about anything. The columbine kid took Zoloft and I always said I 100% see how you could do something like that on Zoloft. I probably could’ve killed someone and felt nothing. I take Lamictal now! But it’s not for ppd. Just regular mood problems

Hi! I'm on zoloft for my PPD. It has helped me a lot with my mood and made me a much more present mother for my baby. I have gained about 15lbs since I started it but i started it at the beginning of summer here in AZ when I could no longer go for walks (100+ degree weather). I'd rather be a happy, attentive chubby mom than a depressed and absent one. The weight will come off in time.

Personally Zoloft was the medication that hospitalized me into the psych ward. I'm bipolar 2 though so it's tricky finding an antidepressant that works for me. I've heard success stories from others though. I don't recall if it made me gain weight or not because my birth control at the time had made me gain. I'm on Lamictal for mood stabilizing and my psychiatrist wants me to start either Zoloft, Celexa, Prozac, or Lexapro. I've tried them all but honestly can't remember much of the others aside from having more anxiety when on them. Remember that everyone is different and that if it isn't working for you then you don't have to keep taking it! The psychiatrist will help find something that works for you. ❤️

I had my baby in November 2023, was hit really hard with PPD and got diagnosed with severe anxiety and ptsd. I did therapy, intensive therapy and group and all the things. Doctor prescribed me Zoloft and it was night and day. I was very hesitant at first because I didn’t want to become dependent and I wanted to be in the moment. But it helped me out so much. I had some weight gain but not too much where I disliked the medication. I came off of it and had no issues.

And my psychiatrist said if the medication is numbing you and making you not in the moment then that medication is not for you. And they’ll help find one that works. So if Zoloft isn’t for you then they’ll find something else that does.

I’m on a low dose of Zoloft and it has definitely helped me, cause I was struggling with anxiety and I haven’t had any weight gain from it

Ask about Effexor. I’ve been on it for years and the only side effect I’ve ever had really is brain zaps ONLY if I miss taking them.

You may trial many medications before you find one that works for you. Zoloft is a good start and hope it works for you. There’s many medication that don’t cause weight gain.
