Weaning🙃

Is anyone else’s head absolutely scrambled over weaning? My LB is coming up 6 months and I don’t know where to start or what to do! I feel like I’m over complicating things 🙃 Any tips and tricks are welcome 🫶🏼

Buy the "how to wean your baby" book by Charlotte Stirling - Read! It's got a weekly shopping list and recipes for each day. It really helped me because I was in the same boat - I had no idea where to start!

@Emma thank you so much I’ll have look x

I’ve done BLW with 2 of my kids currently due to start with my 3rd she’s had the odd few bits passed to her in the last week but will start properly in a week or two. Decide wether you want to do blw or traditional whatever you’re comfortable with. Look for ideas on Pinterest this helped me so much! My first baby’s first meal was a bolognese I just put it infront of him and let him have at it 😂

yeh I was confused too but this has some really useful tips https://www.nhs.uk/start-for-life/baby/weaning/

I want to do baby led weaning (BLW) and I am currently reading the book with the same title by Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett. If you decide to go for BLW, I think this book is a great guide.

Thank you all so much! Will definitely look into this all

I’ve literally just started with single ingredient Ella’s Kitchen puree pouches, so like peas, sweet potato etc. I then cooked up some other single veggies and roughly blended some, puréed others, some were a bit chunkier, and then added them into silicone ice cube trays to just microwave at a later date. I’m not following any routine day to day, just once a day giving him a taste of a few different things with a focus on veggies and the odd fruit thrown in (they obvs love fruit, it’s the veggies that need the work 😂). I’ve tried to take the pressure off by treating weaning and food as just a fun activity for now rather than doing something super regimented, and it’s going well so far!

I did a free online workshop with the Henry team, was really helpful and relaxed so you can have baby with you : https://www.henry.org.uk/whatson Xx

We've started at 5.5 months on lumpy, mash like mixtures of veg and breastmilk. Then we'll try lumpy mash of fruit and breastmilk. Then at 6 months BLW. Soft scrambled eggs are a good starting point and flakes of fish like salmon

Agree with the book recommendation for Charlotte Stirling-Reed 's book. Does a combo of blw and purees and leads you through it nicely. It's the same approach as Joe Wick's book 'wean in 15'. You may be able to find the book on FB marketplace or similar. CSR also posts loads of stuff on her FB and insta which are helpful and worth following. https://www.srnutrition.co.uk/2019/11/first-month-of-weaning/ https://www.srnutrition.co.uk/2023/10/veg-led-weaning-for-babies/

I'm scared with baby led so I do a mix of both, I give purees with a spoon and let her do it too but then give little finger foods that are very soft, her fave is melty puffs from Ella's kitchen. There's no rules on how to do it amd before 1 it's only for tastes and textures so there's no rush to get them eating x
