First day of preschool

Today was my son’s first day of preschool. We were so happy and excited to see him experience a real school for the first time. At the end of the day when I picked him up I was a little bummed out when I saw his teacher gave him a sad face and all feedback was negative. He told me his teacher told him “all your friends are in green and you are in red” or something of that sort. Honestly that made me a little sad, I guess all mothers want to hear good things about their children especially if they are little. Do you think I should let it go or should I bring it up to the teacher? I hate to be one of those parents that think their children are perfect, I know mine is not but he’s only 4. How would you handle it?

Show your support

Bringing it up to the teacher does not mean you think your child is some angel. You can simply ask what he did wrong. You can also suggest that she not tell him things such as "all your friends are green and you are red" because that's not kind, and it's meant to single him out. Peer pressure is cruel. Tell her if he has behaviors that need addressing you're on board with helping the situation and getting him on track, but that it's day one and he hasn't had a chance to adjust yet. He needs some grace and support, not to be singled out and be spoken to as if he doesn't belong.

@Jean-Mari I have come to the decision to take him out of that school and it’s only the end of week two!!! On Monday the teacher held him in the bathroom for over ONE HOUR!! he had an accident because she didn’t let him go to the bathroom when he asked and he was instructed to change his clothes without help. He was struggling with the tshirt she said she could not help him because she’s not allowed to and he was not allowed to get out of the bathroom until he was fully dressed. When I got there, my son was in great distress. I helped him get dressed and we left. On Wednesday, they called me and told me to pick him up because they could not deal with him lol I guess this school is not a good fit for my son 🤷🏻‍♀️
