Rainbow rice method
Hi ladies
Really enjoy seeing all your ideas… not ashamed to say I’ve saved screenshots more than once for inspo!
A question for those of you that have made your own rainbow rice…
I have seen a few “recipes” that call for white vinegar, which acts as a preservative and prevents colour transfer. Others call for hand sanitiser, baking on a low temp or lemon juice.
If you used vinegar, did the smell fade and what is white vinegar in UK parlance? Could only find “malt distilled” and “white distilled” in the supermarkets, and Google tells me this isn’t the same. Is it cleaning vinegar I need?
I have a pretty gnarly allergy to vinegar. I think I should be okay to use it as I won’t be ingesting it but the smell does knock me sick (this is probably psychological rather than a physical response). Not sure I could stomach this technique if the smell lingers! If it does, has anybody used an alternative like the baking or lemon juice with success?
Appreciate any suggestions / advice ❤️
Hey, I’ve used lemon juice and it’s worked okay. I’ve also used just food colouring by itself when I’ve had no other preservative and haven’t actually seen an issue with colour transfer! White vinegar is definitely ideal, and I literally just use Tesco’s own distilled. I only use a drop in a sandwich bag and it just helps the food colouring to spread a bit better, but literally only a drop. If you let the rice dry outside I’ve found the smell is pretty non-existent! x
