I don’t think there’s any right or wrong way to do it. I’m a reception teacher and the only thing I would say is that starting school and having a new sibling at the same time can be a lot of change all at once and that can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. But of course, this is how it works out for some people and there’s nothing wrong with it but it’s just something to be mindful of.
@Amy thank you, this is a really sensible thing to consider!!! I know we have to be very lucky to be able to ‘plan’ it as such but perhaps if it doesn’t happen before starting school I should wait so it gives my daughter time to settle into school!! Thank you!!
I’m not saying to hold off by any means, but just highlighting that although it seems like a great time it does have its draw backs. I’ve been in reception a long time and I’ve seen children who seem pretty much unaffected by it but I have also seen some be quite unsettled because of it.
Honestly my kids have a big gap and it was really helpful for us. My oldest was 3 going 4 so they were both home together for a few months but we really like having a big gap. Now I'm pregnant with my 3rd and my youngest is 5 but my oldest is about to be 9. So it'll be easier on us with the 2 kids in school and the new baby
