Have you seen a placenta before??

It's definitely not the prettiest thing you have ever seen BUT it plays a crucial role during pregnancy. Did you know that the placenta is only a temporary organ and it's job is to provide your baby with oxygen, nutrients, and hormones while also removing waste products from their blood? By the end of your pregnancy, the placenta can weigh around 1 pound and filters about 500 milliliters of blood every minute to support your baby’s needs. So not only are you carrying your baby and the amniotic fluid but the placenta is also pretty weighty - no wonder the third trimester is a bit of a slog! My midwives were pretty intent on me keeping my placenta and looking at it, I mostly inspected it to be polite, but was 100% more interested in looking at my babies and caring for them. I appreciate what it did so much but it wasn’t sentimental to me in any way. Totally behind delayed cord clamping and delivering it most on my own though!

My husband wasn’t bothered watching the baby come out.. but that placenta came out & his face was just pure shock. Then asked the Dr if he could hold it 🤣😭😭
