A couple of baby/child sleep accounts I follow get asked about this. They have toddlers the same age as ours. They say they share images/reels now while children are small and still have that baby look. But will obscure face when they're older. They have older children and their faces are never shown. But I agree, I'm uncomfortable with it.
I like some parenting tips accounts but the ones I follow don’t actually show their children fully (like they’re not in the frame, or you only see the back of their head occasionally). Like teachtalkinspire and mama_nous on Insta. I don’t have TikTok. So I think it’s totally possible to make useful and relatable content without sacrificing privacy. That’s different to what influencers want to do though, and I don’t have a lot of time for that tbh.
@vicky yes exactly, even taking away the creepy predators aspect… at some point these kids are going to grow up and realise their lives are all over the internet! It’ll be bully fuel when they’re at school x
@Rachael I kind of get that, a lot of babies look similar so wouldn’t be easily recognisable. It’s still concerning though, especially when they have lots of followers
@Ruth yes it shows it can be done, I follow a couple of women who do the same but I don’t think a lot are willing to do that as they know cute kids = more views. I do think Instagram /tiktok should stop influencers whose main content is their child. Often the age is around 14? I think for kids to have an account themselves so it makes no sense to allow it
I agree with you. I don’t have TikTok but do follow some on instagram. I think it’s ok to post the odd photo/reel of their child but i’m not sure i agree with these children having their lives plastered all over the internet when they can’t consent to it.
