Child support in Virginia

Question:if I was receiving food stamps and Medicaid for my child and later decide to put my child father on child support do they charge him for that food stamps and Medicaid provided before,or they just charge him for the child support from that day and forward

This depends. Sometimes the state back dates it for Medicaid purposes for that to be reimbursed but normally for the receiver it only gets backdated to date of filing unless you request for further backdate to you. If you don’t then the state is only going to backdate it for reimbursement for having the child on Medicaid. Now if you were on TANF it would be a different situation

He doesnt get charged for Medicaid or foodstamps. Out of pocket medical expenses yes

@Allexys the state will do back pay to them for reimbursement for Medicaid because the noncustodial parent is obligated to support medical insurance

I live in Richmond and receive child support. My children are on Medicaid. And that is not always true. He was not ordered to pay anything towards Medicaid or hold insurance on my child.

No, just child support. Benefits you are eligible for have nothing to do with him. You might be thinking of TANF? I know of you apply for that they will ensure you’ve secured a child support arrangement.
