Wrong dates??

I need advice đŸ˜« I've been told I'm 26 weeks due to my dating scan I had awhile ago but it doesn't make sense to me. LMP would make me 29+2 and going of their dates I had my positive pregnancy test at less than a week which doesn't happen. I know my body and I know within myself I'm further along then they say, this is my second baby. My midwife argued at me though and insisted that I wasn't as far along as I thought. I'm not sure what to do from here. Any help would be appreciated đŸ™đŸ»

Could you use it to your advantage so you aren’t pushed if you go over your due date? Gives you a little more wiggle room? đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž

Could you see a different midwife/get a new scan done at all? Especially if logistically it's just not possible lol

I totally feel you when you say “argued at you”!! The positives are they’re less likely to use medical intervention (provided bubs isn’t huge due to actual gestational age) to induce labour and bubs will be more likely to come when they’re good and ready! Try mentioning it to another midwife/doctor at your next appointment but ultimately the medical profession is just a box ticking exercise (especially in relation to women’s health), if bubs measures x it means x full stop. As long as they’re tracking along the same ‘timeline’ throughout the pregnancy (whatever that is), then all is well. You know your body better than anyone so if something doesn’t feel right with regards to movement etc head on in for extra monitoring x

I am currently 31+5 but should actually be 33+5 based on our dates, bubs is also tracking over 2 weeks ahead in size . Our midwives and drs have all said the same thing which is basically that they don't change the dates throughout pregnancy unless there is huge discrepancies in bubs size because if they move the date it throws out all of the measurements they use to track bubs growth rate. I wouldn't worry, either bubs will decide when it's their time to come along despite the drs plans or bubs will be big and they will induce "early" if you decide to let them

Yeah that doesn’t make any sense. That would mean you tested positive before conception at 2 weeks which can’t happen. Have you had any scans since then?

That’s because LMP is unreliable. Cycle lengths aren’t always the same and I, myself, ovulated later. Saying that though, my dating scan dated me less than I would’ve been as I knew the day I would’ve conceived etc due to my ex partners work abroad schedule. I think it’s pretty common for it to happen as they date you based on the average measurements of bubba x

Yes I understand that but when I had my dating scan I had known for like 9-10 weeks I was pregnant and they said I was 6 weeks which makes no sense

It’s not unusual for a baby to measure slightly smaller on scans and thus give them incorrect gestation.

Is there a reason you are so concerned eg. Needing to be induced? Or have a c-section or something like that? I would try talking to another OB. If not, I would just be aware of both dates and know bub could come anywhere in that time frame. Personally I've opted to start mat leave based on the early date just in case but I'm also not sad about the extra 2 weeks if the official date proves to be correct. Hard if you don't have the financial ability to be flexible though.

LMP is unreliable and it's likely you had late ovulation and/or late implantation (it can happen as late as 12 DPO). So depending on the length of your cycles, you could be 2 weeks off using LMP. I'm pretty sure the dating scan is a far more reliable way of checking how far along you are (after all, it's an optional scan designed to date a pregnancy when people are unsure when they conceived). The 20-week morphology scans will provide some further insight. It's unlikely to change your due date but you'll most likely get confirmation that the dating scan was right.

I just saw your comment about knowing you were pregnant for 10 weeks but the dating scan saying 6 weeks. That is bizarre. Did you do a blood test to confirm the pregnancy? If not, the only explanation for this scenario that I can think of is that you might be one of the rare people that tests positive on a pregnancy test when you are not pregnant, particularly if you took one of the very sensitive tests like FRER, and that a few weeks later you actually did fall pregnant. Apparently some medications can also interfere with the test results.
