@Kelly ooo okay thank you they’ve said I more than likely had it with My little girl but wasn’t picked up and that’s why she ended up with sepsis I’ve had thrush since I was 8 weeks pregnant so they swab me Once a month and on my Last swab they found that I’m now nearly 25 weeks pregnant
I had it with my little girl, as soon as my waters broke I was on IV antibiotics. And was closely monitored for 12 hours after.
GBS is a part of your normal bacteria that doesn’t usually bother you - present in the vagina and rectum. It goes through periods of being active and inactive. If it’s active at the point of labour/birth there’s a chance the baby could acquire it and it can make them very poorly. You’ll be offered antibiotics in labour as a safety net against this
Same. I have a history of a previous pregnancy/birth with gbs. Septic. Nicu. Hospitalised for 2 weeks. The shabang. So with this pregnancy they tested and confirmed I have it again. But as Clare said, it's normal for most. Make sure as soon as you hit labour you go straight in, earlier the better so rhe antibiotics have time to kick in and start. Don't leave it too late otherwise you'll have to both be hospitalised after birth for a long time and baby could be in nicu poked and proded it's not nice dealing with that.
@Kiran thank you I’m under the consultants already for other problems and won’t be left to go into natural labour as will be having baby at 36 weeks so hopefully helps the fact that they will know I need them before hand x
Glad to hear you have a plan in place. Wishing you all the best! X
You don't need to do anything at all, most definitely don't *need* antibiotics. Read up on Sarah Wickhams information about GBS so that you cab make an informed decision x
For pre-term births you’d be offered antibiotics anyway so you’d be covered both ways
It's good they've spotted it, it's only harmful to the baby during labour so the antibiotics will stop you transmitting it and prevent any nasty affects on baby. I haven't even been tested for it. When/how were you tested? X
