Generally they start checking for dilation when you’re in labour. So after my contractions started (for my first Bub) and after my waters broke (for my second) when I was assessed at hospital they asked to check whether I was dilated. In my experience they started talking about sweeps a little closer to my due date. So around 40 weeks they offered one and then at 41 weeks again. I had one at 41 and a half weeks in the end to see if that would get things moving so I could avoid an induction. It might depend a bit based on your hospital/midwife/personal circumstances, but that was my experience
Didn't get mentioned until I was in the hospital after my waters had broken at 39+2, and I'd just had a big contraction. Any reason why you want to know when you're only at 38 weeks? X
@Rebecca ohhh okay that makes sense! 😅 Thankyou so much x
@Elizabeth this is my first baby so wasn’t sure when people get checked of dilation. I’ve seen lots of people on here saying they already know how much they’re dilated around 38 weeks so I thought 38ish weeks was when a lot of people get checked for it 😂 I’m also just really curious to know if I’ve dilated because the constant lightning crotch and pressure is insane 😣
Yeah, no worries. Was my first baby too - I just wasn't worried about knowing myself and just assumed I wouldn't be checked until there was some sort of "show" x
My midwife never checked. I lost mucous plug in the morning at 39w 1d and had an appointment that day too, she didn’t check she just said baby would be here by the weekend
Not till after 39 weeks
