@Miriam How did she sound during the night when breathing? Because my little girl was chesty through night and now it sounds like she’s snoring more than anything x
My girl was exactly as @Miriam wrote except she had a fever of 38 and above. She had steroids all occasions as well as a nebuliser to help with her oxygen which was very low.. the cough is so different you'll know it's not normal. Never even heard of croup until I took to the emergency because her cough scared me as it was very unusual
Breath wise at night she sounded okay, but she will cough all through the night and wake herself up with it! I’d defo call the drs and get her seen again if you think it’s croup, YouTube has lots of videos on croup and the sound of croup and it’s so different to the sound of any other cough so if it’s sounding barky then it most likely is! Hope she’s better soon bless her, it’s not a nice cough to hear x
@Miriam Her breathing is fine now just what you’d expect of a baby sleeping but it’s when she coughs it’s not her usually cough. It’s almost like dry but wet at the same time. I’ll have a look on YouTube and see if it’s similar to that. I thought I would’ve known how it sounds as I work in nursery but I suppose they don’t let children in with croup as it’s highly contagious isn’t it?x
@Kaltum My little girl hasn’t got a fever at all. She is warm to the touch but her temp is normal. And the out of hours doctor I don’t think he believed me as when I took her up she was asleep and I woke her up but my MIL said she was not fighting for her breath but she could see she was struggling a little bit but the doctor said that it’s a viral infection x
@Kaltum id never heard of croup either until my daughter had it! She has a salbutamol inhaler now that she uses which helps loads! It just sounds so horrible the cough, sounds like it is very sore x
This is her breathing right now in the next to me x
Yeah I know what you mean! My daughters had this after croup when it’s turned into a chest infection, it went from dry croupy cough to a chesty sounding wet cough and very high temp, there’s obviously something going on with your wee one bless😞 And you know what, I’ve heard croup is meant to be contagious but it’s my middle daughter that gets it a lot and my youngest has never had it off her! So I don’t know how contagious it actually is! Xx
@Miriam The CHOC doctor said it’s viral infection but I don’t think so purely from her coughing and breathing. I’ll see how she is through the night and tomorrow before I decide if she needs to go back to the doctors again x
Yeh it sounds like the sound of lower respiratory infection, my daughter sounded like that and no one believed me for a long time took her to an emergency three times and and twice to the GP and every time she had a fever. The doctors gave her ibuprofen every time and sent us home. The final time I took her I demanded an x-ray as I suspected a chest infection, and it was. It's horrible I hope your littele one feels better. What I learned from my daughter having croup numerous times and a respiratory infection, they always came with a high fever. Even when she had bronchiolitis. My advice if you think something is not right advocate for your daughter and get them to listen to you. Demand a full blood count at least, and if you really suspect a chest infection as for an x-ray. The GP can arrange all this if you don't want to go the emergency. However if thinks don't feel right go the emergency, don't wait.
@Miriam same my daughter has the same inhaler, she got croup while we were on holiday in July, we forgot the inhaler in UK had to take her to the hospital to get her an inhaler and they gave nebuliser which helped and didn't need steroids and it was a mild croup thank god
I will be taking her back to the doctors today as she’s been dreadful through night. She was struggling to breath and she’s the same this morning xx
Defo the best idea, hope she’s better soon x
Partner took her to the doctors for a second opinion and they said it’s an upper respiratory virus x

My daughters had croup about 11 times (still waiting on them investigating as to wether she actually has asthma🥲). But she usually has a runny nose for a couple days before and then she starts to get a cough and then it just progresses very quickly to a barking cough, then she’s usually very unwell. Cough sounds like a seal almost and is usually a lot worse night time/morning, if it is croup she will need steroids which will help, I’d call your dr in the morning and get their opinion, feel free to message me if you have any questions xx
