Breastfeeding

My baby is currently 5 months old, I am not sure how I feel about breastfeeding, I feel like my baby is constantly feeding.. is this normal? How long should the baby be on my breast every 2/3 hours? I don't know if it is because my supply is low and she is on me all the time? everyone around me makes me feel like I am not producing enough milk and that's why she is feeding frequently :( but I do have milk coming in..

Hi, my baby is 5 months old and eats expressed breast milk. He wouldn’t take it if I give him more. So we stick with 2/3 hours.

I breastfed my little boy for 3 years. And he had moments where he was on me all the time. It does slow down. If you’ve been feeding her for 5 months, you are clearly producing enough milk!!!! She could be doing it for a lot of reason, growth spurt etc. but some babies just love to feed! And it could be she’s doing it for comfort too as breast feeding isn’t just feeding your baby, it’s comfort for every single thing xxxx

I'm breastfeeding my 3 week old. But I ebf my 4 year old until he was 13 months! He used to feed every 2-3 hours at that age then sleep longer In the night. Totally normal! Don't feed bad!x

I am sorry to hear how people around you are making you feel. Babies are different and have different feeding habits, and your LO's habits can change, too. Some babies eat smaller potions but more often. It is also worth considering if your LO is putting your supply up, as they grow, they will have periods where they feed more often as they need your body to increase the milk to help them growing. Then it is also worth remembering that bf isn't just about feeding but also bonding and closeness, and perhaps your LO isn't hungry, but just want to feel close to their favourite person 🙂 If your LO has their wet/dirty nappies and are putting on weight in line with their percentile, it is all good signs.

Cluster feeding still happens a lot, it’s around 6/7 months they have more of “a routine” when they start solids :) eel don’t for 5 months ❤️ x

My 5 months is EBF and sometimes goes 30 minutes between feeds and other times 1/2 hours. Try not listen to other people, every baby is different xx

It's nasty how people make you feel for giving the best you can to your baby "what's wrong with formula" "you just don't want anyone else to feed the baby, it's selfish" or your case... I'm so sorry, it's just making me so angry! One of the reasons I only bf for 10 weeks, but honestly there was more in the end... Anyway, you doing good, it's absolutely normal for babies that age to feed every 2-4 hours, every baby is different, they also have breast milk for drink not only food, they don't get water yet so I don't see no issue, at this stage your body has adapted and is producing as much as needed, if you want to make sure, get pregnacare breastfeeding vitamins, other then that congratulations coz youre doing amazing mama ❤️

That is completely normal! Mine didnt last 2 hours between feeds until i started him on solids and even now he very rarely goes 3hours and thats with him on 3 meals a day its completely normal. Ignore them all you are doing brilliantly! Well done for making it to 5 months x

Feeding frequently isn’t a sign of a low supply. If baby is gaining weight according to her percentile and has plenty of wet nappies then your supply is fine. A lot of people unfortunately don’t have a good understanding of normal breastfeeding behaviour. My son never stuck to a consistent schedule of every 3 hours or similar even as he got older. The length of times between feeds always varied and could be as often as every half an hour. And he has always fed a lot in the night. Babies breastfeed for so many reasons not just for food and also when they are going through growth spurts/ developmental leaps/ teething/ illness etc they will feed more.

This is completely normal. My little one is 4 months old and feeds every 2 to 3 hours. He has always put on weight very well so is getting plenty of milk! I’m sure you are producing just enough milk!

My daughter would stay on all day if i let her 😂 they use it for comfort as well as food x
