Why 'Wake Up Earlier' Is Bad Self-Care Advice (For Me) - And What I Think About Instead

If one more blog, influencer, or book tells me to wake up 15 minutes earlier for self-care, I'm going to scream. 😤 That advice just doesn’t work for me. And honestly, I don’t think it’s practical for most moms either. Every extra minute of sleep is precious—sleep is self-care! My belief is this: self-care isn’t about cramming more into your day. It’s about rethinking how you handle your daily tasks to make room for fun, joy, and REST. 🌸 For me, self-care is about creating space for joy and taking care of myself. So I aim to automate, delegate and/or elininate tasks that don't align with my goals or bring me happiness. In fact, a lot of the typical self-care advice just doesn’t fit my life, and I’m happier when I do NOT follow it! For example, I’ll admit: (1) I play a water sort game on my phone before bed (on the lowest brightness -- but still I'm on my phone right before I fall asleep), and (2) my ideal morning starts when I wake up naturally—no alarms involved (not at 5 am). ⏰ So for me, the worst self-care advice I hear is “wake up 15 minutes earlier.” Nope, not for me. I’m with you! I’m not a morning person, so waking up 15 minutes earlier doesn’t sound appealing to me 😂

@Rebecca 💯. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone! Have a great day!
