Why 'Wake Up Earlier' Is Bad Self-Care Advice (For Me) - And What I Think About Instead
If one more blog, influencer, or book tells me to wake up 15 minutes earlier for self-care, I'm going to scream. đ¤
That advice just doesnât work for me.
And honestly, I donât think itâs practical for most moms either.
Every extra minute of sleep is preciousâsleep is self-care!
My belief is this: self-care isnât about cramming more into your day.
Itâs about rethinking how you handle your daily tasks to make room for fun, joy, and REST. đ¸
For me, self-care is about creating space for joy and taking care of myself.
So I aim to automate, delegate and/or elininate tasks that don't align with my goals or bring me happiness.
In fact, a lot of the typical self-care advice just doesnât fit my life, and Iâm happier when I do NOT follow it!
For example, Iâll admit:
(1) I play a water sort game on my phone before bed (on the lowest brightness -- but still I'm on my phone right before I fall asleep), and
(2) my ideal morning starts when I wake up naturallyâno alarms involved (not at 5 am). â°
So for me, the worst self-care advice I hear is âwake up 15 minutes earlier.â Nope, not for me.
Does the 15-minute trick work for you?
