Hi! I have a 2yrs old Rottie and 7 month old! I walk them together every morning! Her in her stroller and him walking right beside us. I don’t have a recommendation for stroller (we walk our neighborhood and just use our Nuna) but to make it easier bring lots of treats for your dog and constantly let your dog know when he or she is doing a great job!
a waist leash works so well! also look into all terrain wagons, they’re a bit pricey but can last through multiple little ones!
I walk the dog with her proper leash and harness and my son "walks" the dog with his training leash (the extendable one)
1st tip is train your dog to walk on a leash and not pull etc… especially if you have a big dog they will literally drag you.
I have a 4yo and 4 month old shih tzu mix and a 20 month daughter. We take short walks that don't require her to ride (less than a mile) and I go slowwwwww
I have a waist leash, dog was on that leash while i pushed son in the stroller...now my 3 year okd can walk and honestly depending on the locaton... they both go on a leash lol
Thank you all so much for the suggestions! I never even thought of a waist leash that was a great tip. I picked one up earlier today and my dog seems pretty good with it so far. Im going to look into the wagon suggested too- we have one that is all terrain but is pull instead of push which I think would be more useful in this case. The safe walking paths and sidewalk all stop at the street before my house, if I didnt have to cross the busy road to get to it I wouldnt be concerned as much but your input definitely helped. Thanks again.
Why not just a stroller for the babe?
@Erin Im open to that- we dont have an all terrain one/one that can pop over curbs so i was interested in any recommendations in any form
I walk my toddler with 3 dogs (2 large and 1 small) my toddler is always on foot. I do have my dogs trained, so if you do as well, it makes it easier. I usually have all 3 leashes on one hand and my toddler on the other and if necessary, I will carry him to cross the street or sit him on my neck if he gets tired during the walk. I also take a mid-walk break for the dogs and my toddler to recharge and hydrate.
Waist leash!
