Travelling abroad

We are taking my daughter abroad for the first time next week, what were your must haves or things you’d wish you’d taken and didn’t have? Also, what things did you take that you needn’t bothered. I am staying with family not a hotel so that takes some of the stress of needing everything away. Also, how did you travel from airport to accommodation on the other side? Did you have car seats or no car seat?

We’ve just got back from Spain! We packed too many nappies/swim nappies 😆 we got him a swim floatation vest to wear around and in the pool- that was super useful as it made us feel a little less panicky when he bolted towards the deep end! A pram fan was helpful if you’re planning on doing some pram naps. We always take a snooze shade for the travel cot that’s been a must have! And a snooze shade for the pram was also very useful. Take millions of snacks! We packed a snacks and activity bag for him for the plane and also took a tonne of snacks like the organix flapjacks and biscuits, baby crisps etc. That was handy as the heat seemed to make him want to graze a lot more over eating proper meals. We prebooked a taxi from the airport to the hotel and they arranged a car seat for us based on his age and weight!

Oh and we hired a cabin sized stroller for the holiday which we took on the plane but only by being a bit sneaky…it seems a lot of airlines will want to tag your stroller at check in and then take it off you at the gate to put in the hold which is bit annoying as ideally you want it straight of the plane and not at the baggage collection. If you have it folded up at check in and don’t declare it so you don’t get it tagged then you tend to be able to take it on board as your cabin allowance (can be trickier if you also have a cabin bag as well) but that worked for us anyway :)

If you are near shops majority of them have nappies and wipes so you’ll be okay on that aspect. I only bought nappies for the journey there and make sure I have some for journey back. Like you we have a place aboard so it makes things easier. You can buy ready made bottled milk in the airport if needed. I have a fan with clips onto the pram and can be stood up on tables for when we’re out at restaurants which can be bought on Amazon cheap . Ive got a rocket for the pram which rocks the pram while they sleep if needed also off Amazon. I got a float which has a canopy over the top so protected from sun also off Amazon. I bought ear protectors for babies off Amazon too! We already have a car seat out there so we didn’t need them but you can take the car seats which u use until you get to baggage and then just use the pram as normal until you get to the plane and when landed you collect your pram from where u get suitcases.
