Risk assessments

I work in an SEN school, before breaking up for summer I told the head u was pregnant. Upon returning she told me I was teaching 2x days in a sensory class with lots of behaviours as she "forgot' I was pregnant. I said I was ok to do this as I have strong tas who would work with behaviours and not put me at risk. My other 2 days I teach small groups in nurture (generally lovely but timid pupils and a couple of 1.1 children) I've been told I cannot work alone with those children for H&S although these are not an issue but fine to work alone in a srnsory/behaviour class when 3x tas are dealing with behaviours as I'll have a radio to call for support. It seems very mixed messages and a bit too overwhelming for generally pupils who are coming out of class to work 2.1 aswell as leaving classes short on staff when they don't need the extra staff. I was going to ask the trust about it but don't want to cause issues. I'm one to know when something is safe/unsafe but feel like the less risky things they've put things in place and ignoring to an extent the more risky class I'm in 🙄

I work in a SEMH school and I can work anywhere in the school, just with my risk assessment in place. I can’t do RPIs/guides or even go near a child when they’re heightened (sometimes so difficult when you’re used to blocking etc). I have a child at the moment who is very “bubbly” but the school have been amazing and so supportive!!! Yours sounds like mixed messages 🤷🏼‍♀️

Also if you don’t feel safe… you don’t feel safe and NEED to be heard 🤍

Maybe have a chat with someone from your union and see what they say

I think it's contradictory.. today I was with 5 pupils as 2 tas had to leave with a child who was being aggressive (to calm on field) for their safety to be together. Yet I was in class in my own with a walkie talkie. It doesn't worry me too much but seems silly being in that situation but then not being able to work 1.1 will less/none aggressive children. I'm going to speak to the head next week

I am NEVER left alone!!! I have 3 TAs with me with 5 children. Obviously sometimes they’re needed elsewhere or are out the room. But there will ALWAYS be at least one other adult with me xx
