Newborn constipation

Our 12 day old has struggled since being around 4 days old to pass any stools, he goes 3 days without going and his stomach gargles when feeding and he seems uncomfortable as he kicks his legs around/up seeming like he is trying to strain. We’re using cow and gate from birth formula and unsure wether to change his milk as midwife/health visitor said it’s totally normal for them to go a few days without pooing.. we’ve tried stomach massages/bicycle legs but doesn’t seem to help.

give him infacol before every feed. , Since he is very young for any other thing, this is really normal if he is not uncomfortable or crying . 3-4 days bcz he is on formula. Dont worry

I had exactly the same issue. We ended up taking her to the doctor as even though it is normalish for formula fed babies, they should be going once a day. The doctor advised on changing formula to one of those comfort ones as they are easier to digest! Also prescribed us lactose on low dose (obviously your doctor may be different on the drug end so deffo get advice). Just for context she was 11 days when we went to the doctor and had 2 lots of waiting 3 days to go! It seems to have worked for the moment! We also did infacol prior it didn't work for us but definitely give it ago as babies are allowed it from birth x

I had the same with my son when we were using Hipp Organic and were also advised to change formula. Kendamil was the best for us, so gentle on their tummies x

Initially when my LO hadn’t pooped in a while, they told us to give them some of the ready made formula once a day as it has a natural laxative in it. Worked like a charm!

Our breastfed baby didn’t poo for 10 days!! The doctor can prescribe lactulose which will get things moving but be prepared for the poosplosion!!
