Easy Healthy/High Protein Snacks

Hey Mamas! I am 3 months PP and eagerly wanting to get back into shape, build strength and lose the baby weight (20lb). I exclusively breastfeed (so I can’t go into a deficit) and feel like my appetite is HUGE. I really need snack/meal replacement suggestions that are quick, easy, and nutrient dense. I don’t have the energy to make “energy protein balls” or other Pinterest worthy foods ATM. I usually gravitate towards beef sticks, protein bars, drinkable yogurts, trail mix, and premade Fairlife protein shakes. I know I overeat because I can’t stick to my macros- hello sweet tooth. I have tried using MyFitnessPal, but become discouraged when I keep going over my calories for the day, even when I tell myself to just focus on protein. I need help/guidance/support/a hug. 🥲

Hi mama, first I would like to say to give yourself some grace. Breastfeeding takes a lot of time and energy so be patient with yourself. You’re going through a new phase and it is perfectly fine that you are “overeating” because baby is taking most of the nutrients from your meals. As far as high protein foods, I would recommend looking into foods that are ready to eat such as the little snack packs that has meat and cheese, low fat, or nonfat Greek yogurt, chia or hemp seeds, smoothies are always a good go too, eggs, premade protein pancakes and waffles, sardines are really good for you if you like them, tuna, and canned salmon, cottage cheese, nuts and seed based snacks, beans, oatmeal, and certain veggies, etc. I hope this helps😊 also just try to stay active if you can. Even if that just means walking which is more beneficial than most would know

Lastly, if you have a Walmart near you they have a frozen fruit medley that has protein cubes in it. As long as your meals have balance you should be a ok. Sorry for the long comment

Hey, mama! PP & breastfeeding is a huge endeavor. You are doing GREAT! I am a part of an amazing community of fitness moms and would love to have you join us ❤️ PLUS an amazing protein/superfood shake that has been an absolute game changer for me during my 4th pregnancy (currently 35 weeks). Quick, easy, delicious, and satisfying! I’ve cut out snacking and feel great 🥰 Shoot me a message here or on IG @dmcallahan02 for more info!! You got this! 😘

I'm in the same boat! Have just under 20 pounds to lose and breastfeeding also. I've lost the weight before so I know it can be done but battle with discouraging thoughts. I'm rooting for you!

@Sylvia Thank you. I am sorry we are in this rough patch together. Do you remember what you did last time?

Hi Cara! Pre/postnatal trainer here 👋 and also an exclusive breastfeeder (the breastfeeding hunger is REAL 😅). First of all, I wouldn't suggest tracking yet, especially if you're finding it discouraging. Macros can be difficult to calculate in the postpartum period anyways so I always recommend eating nutrient dense foods when you're hungry and prioritizing protein (which it sounds like you're already trying to do!) Some of my favorite high protein snacks are chomps meat sticks, hard boiled eggs, protein shakes, aloha bars, trail mix, overnight oats, and superhero muffins. I also like adding a scoop of gelatin powder to my tea for an extra boost. I know you mentioned "meal replacement" which is making me curious... are you able to get in 3 full meals per day? Feel free to message me with any questions! I'm also working on a postpartum wellness program that will have individualized fitness routines along with pelvic floor and dietitian support. If interested, let me know and I'll send you link!

@jessica that’s great info. I’m a mother of a toddler and work full time. I’ve never been good at working out at home even with practically every piece of equipment I used when I went to the gym 🙄 any suggestions for motivation?

@Marie having a toddler and working full time is a lot of work! I like to think of motivation as a muscle, the more you use it; the "bigger" it gets. So if you're not feeling motivated; start small. Tell yourself you're going to move for 5-10 minutes; if you're still not feeling it after that then be done for the day but most of the time it's just getting started that's the hard part! Also involve your toddler! Often now, my oldest will ask if "we're" exercising today

Yogurt bowls. I just had one that was just protein powder, Greek yogurt, and blueberries with 27 grams of protein. It’s simple and so good!
