Glucose Tolerance test

I had an early GTT at about 16 weeks and my 2nd blood came back lower than my fasting and actually showed a hypo. I had sweats, racing heart, felt dizzy, faint and just rough and didn't know I was hypo then as didn't know results for hours after. Anyway, just had my 2nd one at 27+2. Regardless of results from 1st one I always knew it would be repeated as was told one had to be done at the regular gestation. These ones have come back much the same. 2nd test lower than the first but not as low, though still hypo. I didn't notice this time as consultant told me what to have after 2nd bloods incase happened again. Has anyone had this? So technically being told I don't have GD but Google (I know I shouldnt) is abit vague about what this means and still mentions GD.

To me those surely suggest your body isn’t able to regulate blood sugars when consuming sugar… so surely that needs treatment? Can you ask to speak to someone in the team? X

The consultant last time said the same and that body's over produced insulin but that it didn't need treatment. I don't ever suffer a hypo or the symptoms of a hypo when I regularly eat anything sugary. Gestational diabetes midwife said its fine 🤷‍♀️ I have endocrinologist consultant again Thursday so will see what he says now its done it a 2nd time x

Hi hun, the exact same has happened to me! I am a nurse so I just tested my glucose at work and was concerned that it was very very low, my consultant asked for an early GTT and mine had the lower result on the second blood test just the same, I did get told although it does not show gestational diabetes, that I may still have to go under the diabetic team xx

For reference they did this 2 weeks ago when I was 22 weeks and I still need to have the GTT at 28 weeks. I get all the same symptoms as you as well xx

@Shevaun I wonder what they would do under diabetic team? Follow same GD diet because we over process the sugar?! Its making me really paranoid, I don't want to just ignore it!! I did a finger prick test before both of these bloods and they were quite different. The 2nd one was 7.8 but the hospital one came back at 3 something! Xx

I really don’t know I am very skeptical myself, the good news is that they said it wouldn’t affect baby just for our sake to monitor due to symptom control. I’ve been recommended by the GP to eat 5 smaller meals a day with complex carbohydrates etc. When I first ever checked my glucose at work it was 2.4mmols so I was very worried but after the GTT I done a finger prick it was 3.7mmols so technically a hypo. I had midwife yesterday who said the second result was lower and she said it’s very strange but I really am not sure what they can do for us! Feel free to give me a message if you want to chat about it xxxx

@Shevaun thank you!! I'll let you know if consultant says anything useful at my appointment on Thursday! Good to hear won't affect baby! Xxx

Hey I have this! I got told it was something called reactive hypoglycaemia. Only had my test last week so waiting for further info but essentially even though not diabetes it is something that can be supported by diet. I think essentially our bodies produce too much insulin when exposed to sugar causing a large drop, but in the same breath my midwife said to always carry a sugary snack! So just trying to wrap my head around it myself! I was super rough after the glucose drink so knew something weird was going on! Xxx

@Laura it was such a horrible feeing after that drink wasn't it!! But I never feel like that in my regular diet and eating. Even after sugar I've never experienced that. I'm going to quiz my consultant next week. Xxx
