So as long as you’re keeping your baby on a feeding schedule you should be good. Feed your baby every 2 to 3 hours and just check the diaper every 2 to 3 hours. You can just check diaper periodically if it looks full before the time then change the diaper if baby just got done eating and is up for more than 45 to 60 min try to rock to sleep . if baby becomes fussy right after feeding maybe baby wants more so give an extra ounce but when they have been up for quite a while between ages 1-4 months sometimes baby will cry to be put to sleep I only let my newborn stay up for 90 min at most after feedings because he will become more fussy because he’s tired so I go in the room and put him to sleep . Then feed back again every 2/3 hours . Also make sure he is burping try to burp baby after every one or two ounces . This will help settle your baby . But most importantly when babies are small they want to cluster feed and it’s not bad to let them every once in a while my newborn is 3 months
As the baby gets older, you will learn and see what is best for you. There is no right or wrong way to determine a baby cry between a feeding changing or needs to sleep, but you just kind of go with how your baby reacts to things.
Soon your baby will adapt to what you do for him or her so just make sure that the baby is getting fed every 2 to 3 hours and changed every 2 to 3 hours unless you see that there is a really soiled, diaper or poop within those 2 to 3 hours change them before Because most of the timechanges between feed but mostly every 2/3 hours
At 3 months he wants to eat 4/5 ounces and I gave him 4 ounces at 2 months every 3 hours and would sleep him right away unless he seemed to not want to sleep . At 3 months it gets easier
Dont stress too much it takes time I always check diaper line and smell him and try to think of the last time he ate offer a bottle
Not a bad mom at all the fact your even trying to tell the difference says everything as long as baby is fed and changed and doesn't need to be burped then your doing amazing and you should be so proud of yourself.
In the beginning yes it was hard and but once you spend enough time with your baby you will able to tell the difference. It gets easier but with time. So don’t feel bad or guilty, just do the big 3 see if the baby hungry, diaper change, check if there is gas.
This may sound silly, but I swear this really helped me and was spot on. I watched the video a few times and then made a written chart with the sound = the meaning for that sound, and I used it as reference a ton!! I linked the video below, but in case that isn't allowed or it doesn't show up, watch - Oprah: language of babies on YouTube. https://youtu.be/afMNp6Q4u7s?si=F0qnfD5bPAvkNH_S
You just do your best and guess at the beginning. It get easier
I couldn't either. I always checked the diaper first, then tried other things.
Honestly I was the same, I would just run through a check list, I'd check the nappy first was quickest to take a quick peep, then I'd check last time they were fed, then just on and on. Sometimes my mind would forget things and my depression made it harder. I started alittle memo book just quickly jotted in the time each feed was given or dirty or wet diapers and it's helped especially if the crying was constipation etc. It is hard but don't forget you are not alone and we are here!
I don't think I could fully tell the difference until my baby was 5 months. I think as they get older and develop more "speech" noises the cries start to sound more distinct and it becomes easier x
Don’t beat yourself up! You’re not a bad mom! I am guessing with everything because things with them changes all the time. I used to keep tabs of everything but I can’t keep up anymore. I just make sure I give her a bottle every 2 hours and change her diapers every 2hours. You’re doing the best you can mama! Keep going you’ve got this!
