Smelly/strange smelling urine

Okay so my 8 month old daughter had a very strong and weird smelling urine when I changed her at 5am today, it was so strong I could smell it before I even picked her up so I thought it leaked out in her sleep sack and that’s why I could smell it like that but it didn’t , it was just in her diaper a strong and strange smelling urine, of course my first thought is UTI but her diapers after that have smelled normal ! I called the DOC and they said to call back if there are multiple smelly urines because the process of getting urine from her is very difficult and they don’t want to bring me in for just one smelly urine , so I feel like ugh they don’t want to deal with it on a Saturday!! (Hate me pediatrician office) anyway I’m just worried she’s going to be in pain or discomfort if it’s a uti! She is acting normal otherwise though! She has gotten more baths than normal this week too because of blowouts and spit ups so that’s why I immediately thought UTI as well ! ANYWAYS has anyone else experienced this? Could she have just one smelly urine randomly and it be nothing ????

Is she eating solids?

Yes but she hasn’t eaten anything out of the ordinary though , she had avocado toast yesterday for breakfast and then some apple baby food, and I did let her taste some whipped cream on my finger when we were out to lunch , but that’s all she has eaten in the past 24 hrs besides her formula

Yes my daughter gets this way too sometimes shes 2 and it’s happened since she was little little it just more concentrated at night sometimes so in the Am it smells bad and she loves water so its not like she is dehydrated or anything . Still Keep an eye out for a fever and or bloody urine just in case I know it’s hard when they can’t tell you if something is wrong.

Crap. Went to edit my note to add something and deleted it. They're trying to save her unneeded pain and/or stress. A clean catch in an infant usually means a catheter. Those suck to do, suck to watch, and SUPER suck to have inserted. Especially on littles. I would hold off until Monday, see if it's still happening. It could be food, it could be a cold, teething can do it ... Obviously, if you see color changes in her wet nappies, or new/changing discharge, or she starts climbing a fever, then definitely push the subject. I was editing to add that I have 6 years of experience with kiddos and UTIs because my son has pretty severe kidney issues, that started super mild and have gotten worse over the years.

Okay thank you so much ! She hasn’t had another one since the stinky 5am pee so hopefully she is going to be okay because I would be devastated if she needs to get a catheter

My 18 month old has the smelliest wee, she honestly stinks like she's not had her nappy changed in days but it obviously gets done every hour or so, when needed. She doesn't cry out at all when going for a wee and it never looks sore or red so I've never spoken to doctors about it before

If it’s a UTI, you will know. They will have random symptoms other than that. My baby girl got a UTI at 4 days old and we had to spend her first week in the hospital for it. If your baby is having solids, it could be the type of food they had also. But don’t discount infections, get it checked quickly
