I’m in the same boat right now.
My health visitor applied for me at my son's 15 month review. I know they are a nightmare to get hold of but i think they could give you an application form or do it on your behalf x
I’m in the same boat, I think it’s only when they’re 2🥲 I’m panicking about how I’m going to afford childcare until she’s 2. There is a 20% back scheme though if you search tax free childcare which isn’t really much but it’s a help xx
https://www.caerphillyearlyyears.co.uk/ Hope this helps , you need to enter your postcode on where you live and it’ll you if you’re in a flying start area and when you need to apply following the table. They’re currently taking application for kids to start in January , my little boy turns 2 in December so will start in January . theres a link is on the page to apply for the funding I think it closes 11/10/24 providing your little one falls in the birth dates they’re currently taking applications for x
I spoke to my local council about this a few days ago, very frustrating the Welsh government has only rolled it out in certain areas as a trial so it’s not available for everyone but give your local council a call and they can assist you with what your entitled to but it’s very sad how the Welsh government give so little support compared to mothers living in England
From someone who works in childcare, flying start is free anyway. Whether they start mornings or afternoons, you’ll get the few hours a day free.
Is it only when they turn 2 for flying start then? Sorry I have no idea! Panicking how I’m going to afford childcare
Flying starts from the moment they turn 2 yeah, you’ve got to find a setting that does flying start and enrol online I’m sure, but they can stay there until they go into nursery then x
We are in a flying start area but they take in the children like the schools so for example september, January & after Easter. My daughter turned 2 on Sunday and starts meithrin this week it’s a flying start setting but because her birthdays the end of September she will start school in a January so the free flying start hours won’t kick in until January st meithrin so until then we are paying for 2 days a week. You don’t need to use the flying start that’s closest to your home you can use any flying start setting including child minders who offer the flying start programme
I think flying start is only 15 free hours a week though. I work in a school and got flying start on our site and they are only open in the mornings but some settings do full days. If you wanted any extra hours you are able to pay aslong as the setting has the space as they got to prioritise the free hours first
You should get 12.5 hours a week free childcare from them turning 2. My little man does 9:15-11:45 in playgroup Monday to Friday. You can speak about it to your health visitor and they'll point you in the right direction x
when does your little one turn 2? my daughter turned 2 the 9th feb so started flying start after half term , she’s in afternoons 12:45-3:15 x
