Drs check up after c section

I’ve just called my drs to book in my 6 week check up for myself and baby to be told it’s 8 weeks and they don’t have anything till start of December ??? I’m trying to get back to some sort of normal and start of December takes me to 12 weeks, anyone else had same kind of issue ? X

I tried to book my 6 week appointment post c section and they told me that they no longer do them!! And unless I have any specific issues I want to talk about, that there won't be an appointment for me, just for baby. So that was that, my baby had a six week check but I never had any kind of follow up! It is frustrating, it's such a big thing to go through and then we can kind of feel forgotten about can't we. Sorry they're saying it will take so long to see you. X

My GP does the baby and mum checks at 8 weeks together to save you having to come separately. If you have any concerns chat to your midwife or HV or you could ask for any cancellations? X

I’m sorry that’s frustrating. I had a 2 weeks incision check, then the 6 week check. I’ve never heard of 8 weeks especially after a c section. Try to see a doctor at the hospital where you delivered if you can.

@Eleanor totally feel forgotten about, I’ve been discharged from midwife but we’re waiting on a call from great ormond street hospital when I asked midwife what was happening she said oh we won’t chase now so I’ll leave that with you? Totally feel like soon as you leave hospital they don’t care x

Oh this is so rubbish! It annoys me that they don't care about mum after delivery sometimes. I had similar with my 1st (I had surgery after birth and NO-ONE wanted to look at the stitches) and no-one even asked me how I was getting on. I had to complain at my GP surgery to get them to book me in for a 6 week check up and even then the GP just stood at the end of the bed, gave my downstairs a cursory glance and went "yep looks fine" (my stitches were all internal, so fat lot of good that was!)

@Jen unfortunately this sounds like she's in the UK and I would have no idea how you'd even get a hospital doctor to look at you here without a referral, that's not really a thing

I also had mine at 8 weeks with baby and his first jabs (although they were closer to 10 weeks) very frustrating but to be honest they didn’t look at scar or check me in any way other than ask how I was feeling and about contraception so I wouldn’t hold out too much hope for it. I was expecting it to be far more of a check up not just a couple of questions 🙄

I didn’t get seen until nearly 12 weeks because they were back logged 😑.. I just did everything as normal as possible even driving because I couldn’t just wait around

It’s mostly a waste of time and purely a tickbox exercise anyway. Any concerns or any type of anything was dismissed.

I was told that they do the check at 8 weeks injections but due to medical reasons my little boy can't have his injections so I had my check up the same day as his 6 week check up with the GP

This isn’t an issue in the US. I guess that’s the only positive of having to pay for healthcare 🤦🏼‍♀️

I was told they don’t typically do them anymore when I rang. I asked for one anyway but it was essentially a waste of time. They asked how I was mentally and asked about contraception, that’s it. It’s sort of sold that they ‘sign you off’ as being okay but it’s really not, or at least not where I am! They didn’t check my incision. Honestly, as awful as it sounds - they don’t really care about mothers once you’re discharged! 🤦🏼‍♀️
