Medical Advice

Anyone with medical knowledge would be greatly appreciated. I was never checked vaginaly(if thats a word) after my c section. I was told my heavy bleeding, clotting and cramps were my period at my 6 week check in. I made an appointment at 8.5 weeks postpartum for bleeding and cramps and clotting. I was told I didn’t need to be checked “unless I wanted to” I asked to be checked. They put two fingers in me and said it looked like period blood and I was fine. I called Friday with serious pain and was told the doctor would call me. I called back two more times. They didn’t let me speak to the doctor. They said they can’t just give pain medicine to people who call even though I was seen the day before. I felt like I was in labor and had so much pain all weekend. Sunday I passed what the hospital thinks is a retained placenta… but they said it seems odd and sent it to pathology. I guess … does anyone know what this is or heard of someone pushing out their own retained placenta? I can’t find anything similar to my story Sorry if this is TMI

I don’t have any medical advice but just wanted to say I’m so sorry that you weren’t taken seriously. That must of been absolute agony. I hope you’re feeling less pain now x

That's absolutely insane that they just brushed you off!

@Kelly thank you. I think it’s going to take a while to get over

Yeah I can imagine. Take it as easy as you can and hopefully you get some answers soon x

Omg! I saw my HV last week and someone in my hometown almost died because they forgot to remove the placenta. You poor thing, not what you want to be dealing with when you have a newborn and recovering from a c-section. I hope you make a speedy recovery xx

That’s a decidual cast by the looks of it. If your bleeding had stopped then started up again, it’s likely to have been your period. On occasion women’s uterus shed a cast, it feels very similar to labour as your cervix needs to dilate. Another thing is your milk would not have came in if you retained placenta, or at least very little. Although it’s alarming, and quite painful, it’s not something that causes long term effects. However, so sorry your body decided to do that to you lol

I would definitely put in a complaint to PALS for sure. It is possible but have the scanned you and checked what’s going on ?

Oh my gosh i’ve never seen or heard of this. I’m so sorry that weren’t helpful. And I can’t imagine not knowing what’s going on

I dont have medical knowledge, but I had this too. They checked for signs of infection after I passed a very large clot just over a week after having my baby (vaginal delivery). I had no signs of infection so just had to have some antibiotics (just for 1 week) and regular scans (I think I had 3 scans over a 6 week period) to ensure the amount of retained products was reducing. I was able to pass it all myself, but I think if you have signs of infection they remove it quickly for you. Also, someone's mentioned that your milk would not have come in if you have retained placenta but my milk came in fine and my baby has been ebf since birth. I hope you feel better soon!

@Allie it was actually the placenta. I just got the results back

How does a doctor forget a piece of the placenta during a c section? They can literally see it????? Through the massive hole the baby comes out of??? Wtf???

Holy! That’s so uncommon with a c section I would definitely file a complaint! Sorry you’re dealing with that ❤️sending love!

I'm so glad you're okay!! That can be life threatening. File a complaint for multiple places of negligence, starting with the surgery, post op and the lack of care and concern that your brought up and were ignored about. This is absolutely horrific and 100% avoidable with a c-section. Having a newborn is hard enough all on its own. I'm so sorry you went through this and I hope that things greatly improve from here.
