Child Support

Hi Ladies, How can I go about finding my child’s father to serve him child support papers if he doesn’t have an address or a legitimate job? He has decided to go missing and I’m having a hard time finding him. Any tips?

I'm actually going through this now. Maybe some of these will help, 1. If he has had prior issues with the law , do a case search on him, use the address that's listed in his most recent case. 2. If you know the address of any close relatives, ( mom, sibling, grandma etc) 3. Bonus, if you know his social security number I had his social and used his address from MD case search on the application. I received a letter in the mail with a day/ time to come in for a resolution conference. You both are expected to come in at the same time so that a DNA test can be conducted if he isn't on the birth certificate and basically try to reach a support agreement without going to court. It's also a lot of paperwork to sign. If there's a history of violence then you can request a separate meeting.

If he misses the initial meeting he has one more opportunity to reschedule. If he misses the second meeting then the sheriff will go to whatever address is on file to serve him court papers. If the sheriff is unable to find him then a warrant is issued. This is what was told to me by my case manager. Keep in mind the process is extremely long winded. My children's dad missed both of his meetings, back in July. I went back to the office in August for an update and was told the system has been down so cases are backed up. I sent an email to my case manager 2 days ago, and have yet to receive a response.

Hopefully that answered your question and also gave some additional insight on the process.

Thank you Lammie that was so helpful

No problem, glad I could help
