I hate my job - how do i get out of it?

I'm currently signed off with severe depression. One of the reasons for this is where I work and their complete inflexibility since I have returned from Maternity Leave (since January 2024). Due to roadworks, what used to take 40 mins to get into work now takes an hour and a half (a 3 hour roundtrip now). I work three days a week and need to be in the office for two of those days. The new commute is now killing me and what's worse is my work will do absolutely nothing to accomodate me - i've suggested working at a closer office location, starting early leaving early, all they have turned down. WFH more days than i currently am is also not an option. There have been other reasons for my sign-off - potential redundancies, my job share leaving which means me needing to pick up more work, my Manager suddenly becoming very distant and abrupt with me. It's just all too much now. I'm trying to look for other jobs that meet the schedule i currently do (three days a week, closer to home, similar salary) but this feels impossible right now. My daughter's nursery can't change the days around that she currently does due to being fully booked with other kids throughout the year. So i am essentially bound to my current schedule. I just don't know what to do any more. Work is making me miserable, not working feels impossible also as we would be SO tight on money with just my husband's wage. Any advice?

Hey, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Juggling work around childcare is stressful in itself without work being an additional source of stress! I really hope you find something that works for you, and I hope you take no irritation to this- but have you considered a side hustle that can eventually replace your full time income? It can be so difficult working under somebody else, and essentially all we all want is the freedom to enjoy time with our families without worrying about bills etc, I’m currently on maternity leave but I know I want to be with my little one when it comes to an end so I’ve started a side hustle currently so I can be at home more often with him later! Im happy to give you more info about what I do for you to consider in the future. No pressure tho, ofc. I really hope you find something suitable for you ♥️
