Issues with wearing pants!

Hi, looking for a bit of advice. My son (24 months) is doing really well with using the potty at home for both wees and poos! He takes himself to the potty or if he wants to go to the proper toilet, he’ll tell me and I’ll help him go there, but only if he’s not wearing any trousers/pants! But when we do put trousers or pants on, he forgets to go and has accidents, or holds it in for ages until I just take him to the toilet or potty. It’s strange as when we are out the house, he’ll obviously be fully dressed and does tell me that he needs the toilet so we can go while we are in a shop/cafe etc. So just looking for a bit of advice as to how to help him remember that with clothes on in the house, he can still go to the potty or let me know that he needs it? We started potty training in august so it was warm enough for him to just be wearing a top but now it’s getting colder, I’d like him to wear more clothes! And he can’t just not wear any trousers forever 😅 Thanks!

Have you tried just loose, baggy trousers, just wondering if the feel of the pants/trousers feel similar to a nappy and it’s muscle memory at play? Otherwise I read in the potty training in 3 days book to get pants with a character they like on them and you say “oh no you’ve made duggee all wet, we can’t get duggee wet”

@Sam yeah so we’ve tried brief style underwear, but then also just trousers (leggings, joggers, pyjama bottoms) with no underwear too. It just seems like anything on his bottom half makes him forget to go, but only in the house as he’s fine when out and about. I’ll give the characters a go though! Thank you!

I read, and we are doing at home, that they not need to use pants yet. If we put pant, they feel like a nappy and the children do it again on the pant. My advice is, is you child is going to the potty by himself withoud nothing, try now putting only pants. And also he need to try how to take down the trouser.
