Positive c-section recoveries?

I have seen mostly negative stories about c-sections on here, does anyone have any positive ones? I need to have a c-section at the end of the month and trying to stay as positive as I can despite the after care potentially being very difficult.

We had a planned c section with my son. Surgery went great! The first walk was rough. But after that, it got easier. I’ve been able to do everything I normally would! I’m 3 months postpartum and have had zero complications. Fully healed! Would 10/10 do another c section if it is needed

I've had two - first one was absolutely fine, first walk was rough but after that got better! 2nd one was also fine I just took a bit longer to recover (older and had a 4 year old at home) Just go slow and don't push yourself even if you feel like you can xx

Best decision I made for myself and I’m having my second one in December. No trauma, very happy and calm experience. I found recovery really easy tbh, nothing worse than period pain. I was discharged on day 3, took public transport home. Went to the pub day 4 for lunch and Costco day 5. By 6 weeks I was exercising again, by 8 I was on a plane to Australia. I never had any issues carrying my girl or feeding her. I was even walking the ward with her the morning after my surgery. I got no shelf, no ugly scar or any other horror you hear. In fact by 12m I couldn’t even see my scar, it’s in my pubic hair and faded to white in no time. Looking at me in my underwear you’d never even know I had a section.

I had 2 planned csections 14 months apart. I was absolutely fine with both. Both very stress free, we picked a music playlist which was lovely. Recovery for my second felt so much easier, I think because I knew what to expect. You’re stronger than what you think! 🤍💫✨ I would say just go easy on yourself and take any help that is offered! Xxx

I had an emergency c section in April, so I am now 5.5 months postpartum. The surgery went really and my scar has healed really nice with no issues :) Just take things slowly afterwards, let people help you when it is needed (even if it is watching the baby whilst you have a nap) and just listen to your body as it will give you signs of your doing too much :) Little walks help with your recovery too, at first it felt a bit tight around the scar so I just took it slowly, but after 2 or 3 weeks it got sooo much easier x

You’re welcome to message me about it. I genuinely found the whole thing easy. I absolutely loved the delivery and I experienced no pain whatsoever. The whole thing was a dream x

I had a planned C-section for my most recent baby. The surgery was great. Initially the first week is a little rough if I'm honest but I had a lot of blood loss and was already anemic going into the surgery. But I was pretty much back to normal doing everything I usually would after 9 days. No complications and the scar healed really well. I was absolutely petrified about having one as I've never had surgery before 😅 but it's absolutely fine. X

Mine was pretty positive. The worst part was probably having to stay two nights on a busy ward and getting no sleep. But the pain was manageable and within a few hours of the spinal block wearing off I was up and walking (slowly). I had some bladder issues which kept us in for another 24 hours but if it hadn’t been for that I would have been able to go home. A key thing for me was doing lots of research beforehand so I knew what to expect and drawing up a c-section birth plan which I shared with the staff on the morning of the surgery. Emergency c-section here. Very positive experience, it was quick and relaxed, we were invited to put our music, after a quick chit chat with the anesthesiologist which I think was a trick to distract me, baby was here, she was presented to us in lion king position 🥰!! Recovery was great as well. Remember to breath when going to the toilet, I found it makes things easier ! We’ve spent 2 nights at the hospital! I’m now 8 weeks pp and feeling great !

My elective one was a week ago and honestly, it's going so well. The first few days are quite rough and getting up the first time to move around is no joke and then it slowly gets easier. I've been for small walks every day. Slowly increasing it, did a bit too much yesterday, so taking it easy today. Dressing was removed on Monday and the scar is already looking good. Stay on top of your medication, move around and listen to your body. I was not very mobile the last few weeks so have felt such a relief and sometimes think I can handle everything 😅 Everyone is obviously different though, however, overall the whole experience has been so positive and I would never have done it any other way!

I had an emergency section after labouring for 52 hours, it was so calm considering, everyone was so helpful answering any questions, the help in the hospital was amazing! One nurse was helping me to the toilet for the first few times to help with changing my pads/underwear, home recovery was great as I had lots of help but emotionally it was hard as I couldn't bend over to pick my baby up, I used a pillow on my lap to feed him, kept my scar clean and had absolutely no infection, I'm 13 weeks pp now and still get the odd bit of pain if I do too much but other than that recovery couldn't have been any better

I had a planned C-section in January for my breech baby and it was a really positive experience — and that’s coming from a crunchy mom who was planning a homebirth. The surgery was very smooth and my recovery really wasn’t too bad. I was mostly back to my old self (albeit with lower stamina) by 14 days PP. just embrace rest the first 5 days. For me I felt exponentially better every day after day 5. But I was never in any significant pain at any point.

I had a planned c section 2 months back. Trust me the planned c section is the best and feels like Breeze. Post c section pain was manageable. I felt pain when I turned on my sides for 6 days. I was not able to uplift myself by my own for 10 days. 1st walk, four people helped me, it took 15 mins for me to encourage myself for a walk. But once I started walk, they removed my cathedral as I was able to go to bathroom by myself. No pain while peeing and pooping. It's all manageable if someone is with you as an attender. My breastfeeding started after 4 days but you must try that on your 1st day of c section. Remember, please don't eat or drink anything 10 hours before the c-section, not even water. Because at the time of operation you will feel like vomiting. That Is really bad if you vomit at the time of operation. For 30 days I felt pain at the point where the anesthesia injection was given. I thought it would be permanent pain but it is not. After 30 days I felt very better no pain nothing on my back.

Just make sure you have help around the house and rest. Listen to your body. Take walks but add more time gradually. My husband didn’t help me like he said he would so my incision didn’t close up one side very quickly .

The recovery really depends on your support system and also your local hospital. The after care I received in hospital was atrocious so I left earlier than I should have and ended up splitting my scar open. BUT personally I still don't see it myself as a negative experience, because the actual section itself was so calm, smooth and relaxed. I just happened to be there on a bad night for staffing. The recovery really isn't as dramatic as most professionals make it out to be as well, they literally give you worse case scenario to cover their own arses. Just go with your body, you'll know when you get there. The midwives will encourage you to walk the same day of surgery so be sure to have a dose of pain relief about an hour before they try to get you out of bed, the more you get up and down, the easier it becomes - personally! I know we're all different x

5 hours after surgery I was up and walking, walked to the car by myself and on day 3 went to a garden centre shopping❤️ been feeling totally back to normal since pretty much the beginning, I maybe had a day and a half that was a little painful but nothing major❤️ I’m also insanely independent so I got on with everything like normal as I hated people doing things for me😂 This is my second c section and recovery has been even easier this time, definitely don’t just sit around as that will make it so much worse!

Hi I have 2 c section and everything was fine , I was very scared … but everything was fine I dint have pain or something… few hours later I was walking like nothing happened I don’t know why …

I’ve had two c sections. It’s rough ofc but so is a vaginal birth. The anesthesiologists were great, the surgeons were great, the nurses were great. Healing happens pretty fast, I didn’t need pain meds for more than two weeks and all I was taking was 2 Advil a day. I was walking within 24 hrs. Honestly the worst thing was just waiting 6 weeks to lift stuff. It varies from person to person but the human body is pretty incredible and heals remarkably fast. You’re gonna do great!

I’m 4 weeks PP and pretty much completely healed. It doesn’t hurt when I cough anymore. Also I was able to do stairs again relatively quickly and you can barely see my scar

I had a planned c-section for my son because he wouldn't turn and was head up. I was absolutely terrified due to past trauma from childhood surgeries. The worst part of the preprocedure for me, aside from the anxiety, was trying to get an IV in my arm, it took 2 nurses, an anesthesia resident and the anesthesiologist with an ultrasound to get an IV. Worst part of the procedure itself was the freezing of my back before they did the spinal anesthesia. Recovery wasn't too terribly bad. First pee was difficult but after that everything went smoothly. For me, it took about a week (with pain meds continuing) to get back to mostly normal. Make sure after surgery when you're home to set alarms and reminders and keep on top of your pain meds, even if you don't feel like you need them! Not only do they help you feel better but they truly do help with recovery. Don't be afraid to ask for what you need while you're in the hospital, that's what the staff are there for, especially if you need breakthrough pain meds.

C-sections are also fairly quick. Baby comes out in 15 minutes, and they get held by your birth support person right by your face for the rest of the 30 or so minutes. While thing takes about 45 minutes.

Had my 2nd elective 11weeks ago & I feel great! Wasn’t even a question to do it the 2nd time & my recovery was even faster this time

Mine was great, I just took it easy!! If I had any more babies I’d probably request one!

Elective c section 16 months ago was the best experience of my life. No pain whatsoever, baby was perfect. You wouldn't see my scar now unless you were looking for it. No infection, didn't feel at all like I needed 6 weeks recovery time. And as someone said above the worst part was the busy ward over night. I just wanted to get out of there and get my son home. I did hear on that ward the horror stories of some of the natural births the ladies had and it was terrifying. Every myth I've heard about c sections just weren't true. I bonded instantly with son and he is my entire world. I would recommend a c section to all, from my experience. But I do know that's purely subjective.

I had an 'emergency' one - wasn't an actual emergency just wasn't dilating so after 48 hours I opted for one. Most positive part of my whole induction and I honestly wish I'd asked for one sooner. Everyone makes you feel so comfortable and chilled in theatre, i went in crying and was smiling and laughing in about 2 minutes of being in there whilst they were preparing me. I won't lie the first few days were pretty awful and it does hurt but just keep on top of pain medications and take it slow. Listen to your body and make sure you get plenty of rest!
