I absolutely buy second hand clothes for my kids! I don’t feel as bad when they stain them. 😅 Once they’re worn, they’re worn, y’know?

I almost exclusively try to buy second hand or on clearance! Saves so much money and a lot of times they’re in almost new condition because kids grow so fast. Of course there are a few pieces that are new that I really wanted but overall saving the money

I absolutely let my kids wear second hand clothes. I totally understand where u are coming from.. And look, you can only do so much. Not sure how old ur baby is, but isnt like she knows and understand right now.. Like you said, they grow too fast anyway. You do what u have to do mama... My family will bag up our clothes and keep passing them round to each other once their kid grows out of sumin..

Sometimes secondhand kids clothes is only worn once or twice. Second hand is so useful!

Secondhand 🙌 I give and get a ton of clothes (and toys and other kids stuff) for free on my local but nothing group. It’s the best. It’s not at all a group for low income people, just people who love gifting & getting stuff for free lol.

I don’t have a problem at buying second hand items. You just have to know how to pick them!

Buy second hand cause I have sometimes found cuter items then new. I wash on sanitize with lysol sanitize soap and tide plant just cover any ew I cannot see and my piece of mind. I still get a few things new but especially that first year he was so tiny second hand was best for us.

First time mom late too. I get what you're saying but when you see how fast they go through them, I promise you won't care! We didn't buy any second hand clothes because there were so many people excited to give us theirs as their kids grew out of them! If you want the experience, buy some special outfits but take whatever you can get for the everyday ones that are going to get spit up on anyway!

We love buying second hand! Our local church hosts a consignment sale twice a year (once in the fall for cool weather clothes and once in spring for warm weather clothes) All the items are checked for missing items like buttons etc and are gently used and not heavily worn out or soiled- so it's a bit nicer then some of the thrift stores I've been to and often the prices are cheaper too!

I think you’d be surprised how many people aren’t on a low income and still buy/accept second hand clothes. My neighbourhood has a what’s app group and we regularly post second hand items. I’m forever sending my husband to go pick something up. Tomorrow someone is coming to collect my Moses basket which looks brand new and I have a bag of 12-18 month boys clothes stored away that was given to me. Some of the things I’ve been given for free: Pram Cot Bath Clothes Jumperoo (currently on loan to another mum) Bouncer Next to me crib Mobile for cot Think of how much good you’ll be doing to the environment 😊 Ps. I drew the line at mattress and car seat.

People gave me their hand-me-downs and it was great. I love used stuff!

I do, all the time! I also take hand-me-downs from friends and family. I'm very picky about clothes but I'm gonna buy them cheaper lol.

I buy second hand and I have disposable income. Kids grow so fast and I hate having to buy brand new things all the time. Clothing just ends up in a landfill. I’ve also sold and donated used clothes. I will take hand me downs all day.

I have almost exclusively second hand/hand me downs etc for my son. I find new baby clothes to be wasteful. Once they're older and not growing into a new size every other week I wouldn't mind spending money on good items, but I feel like if I can get the same name brand items second hand for pennies on the dollar it'd be a waste of resources to buy new, esp with how bad fast fashion is nowadays.

I only buy new if on sale or clearance and get 2 sizes up. My son lived in 2nd hand for the first 18 months minus his baptism after party outfit and his birthday outfit

I view secondhand clothing as a huge help for the environment which is an important value I instill in my children. I grew up very poor and have a weird urge to buy certain things extra nice for the kids but I find the nicest secondhand clothes!

When bub was new born, it was all brand new. I do now go op shopping sometimes, shes almost 3. I buy most of her clothes from shein or temu. Very rarely go to best & less, kmart or target

Girl, 95% of my babies’ clothes came from other moms who aren’t having any more babies. Free.

Almost all of my daughter’s clothes are second hand. They’re either hand me downs from her cousins or they’re from a second hand store

Don’t bother with new. There’s so many good second hand clothes for kids that are just like new. So much cheaper and better for the environment to by second hand.

Yes, constantly buy second hand! So much is worn once or not at all. Facebook groups, once upon a child, goodwill. Not everything is in bad shape

@Banu please try not to, SHEIN and Temu are so bad. Horrible for the environment and bad labor practices

Second hand. Like you said. They grow too fast.

First time late mom as well and I am not on low income, I get a lot of stuff second hand from thrift stores and when I am done with the clothes I donate them back, I can’t in good conscious buy new all the time, or even most of the time. They grow so quickly and fast fashion is terrible for the environment, don’t even look it like you buy second hand because you are on low income, you are doing a positive thing buying hand! We should all buy second hand and those that can afford to donate it back, those that can’t sell it back, I hope you feel better hearing from others that second hand is much better for everyone.

I mostly buy second hand clothes. People can't tell as long as what you buy is in good condition. It's a huge cost savings and help minimize waste. Fabrics are a huge contribution to landfills, so buying used is much better for the environment. Plus my kids love going to thrift stores and looking for cool and unique finds now that they earn their own money from chores etc ...

We have all second hand clothes. I buy a few items here and there for special occasions/pictures that I want to make special for me in some way. But sometimes some of the stuff we get is practically new or still has the tags on it. It’s really a good way to save money right now

If you buy clothes, I recommend buying stuff that stretches over 6 months so that they can really wear it. Like the Little Sleepies brand.

I brought new newborns and now secondhand for all but her nice going out outfits. I'll do the same when #2 is here. X

First time mom at 31. I had fertility issues for 10 years and almost 7 months with a little girl. I’ve been going on Temu or going to Walmart to get her clothes. There is an organization I’m going through that get a lot of donations. Whatever I don’t get from them, I look on Facebook or other groups to find stuff a little cheaper. I have low income, my partner pays the bigger bills and covers repairs around the house. We’ve found some really good stuff on Facebook marketplace. I also want to add that some friends and family are planning on getting her some clothes too. At least, that’s what they said.

Not at all I know what you mean but I'm always in charity shops for me too good for planet money and you can wash them! It means what they wear is individual too

I’m not on low income but have always loved shopping second hand for myself due to it being more sustainable and ethically conscious. When it came to my baby I used to be a snob and only want things brand new, now I’m 2.5 months in and completely changed my mind. My little one grows out of things after a week or two at most, and I’ve found so many nice barely worn or never worn items on Vinted. I wouldn’t buy anything heavily worn unless it was a need but honestly I think I’d struggle to find something like that. Generations ago clothes were always passed down, especially for children, and had so much life and sentiment to them. Now people buy things for a few wears just for it to end up in a landfill 🙃

I get secondhand clothing for my son from my cousin and friends! I don’t “need” to, but it’s a great way to save money and yea kids grow soooo fast. I don’t feel bad, my son plays hard, not buying Zara for him any time soon lol.

Yeah loads on vinted. Don’t feel bad; it’s helping the planet buying second hand x

I generally ONLY buy second hand! Or vintage. You can get bargains on some expensive brands and they hold their value so you can resell on down the line

I also Like the environmental factor and I like nice quality brands, so I get those second hand and the clothes often feel quite new since they were only worn a short while. If I bought all new clothes I’d definitely not buy the more expensive brands I can get cheaply second hand. I buy clothes bundles, so I don’t have to pick every item, but just find a bundle I like the style of. I still dress my three year old in second hand clothes and I bought lots of breastfeeding clothes for myself second hand too.

All of my little ones clothes have either been gifts, hand-me-downs from other mums, or bought off Vinted or from charity shops. They grow way too fast when they're little for everything to be new and I swear brands make the clothing way more expensive than it needs to be! Why not go for a balance? Get most of the stuff secondhand but buy an outfit or two for each age range so you get to purchase something special for your little one?

Most of my kids clothes are second hand! Either given from other people, or bought from charity shops or vinted. At my work (nursery) we have a swap shop, I put in my kids old clothes and I’ve taken a few things that other people have put in.

I buy bundles from marketplace on Facebook and then top that up with new bits and bobs of what I'm missing eg socks, vests, pj's. I buy all LO shoes new though. Then sell it on as a bundle and use that money to buy the next bundle. Although I always have the next size up ready. So when he was in size 6-9 months I already had 9to12months and looking around to buy 12 to 18months. Hopefully that makes sense.

Be careful. People have bed bugs, scabies etc

My daughter has worn almost exclusively second hand clothing since birth (almost 5 months now). Honestly I think it's the smart way to go about it. I have been gifted most of her clothing...either from family members who have bought it, or from friends who had babies slightly older who outgrew their clothing. Honestly they grow so fast, it's pointless to buy all new clothes. They're expensive. The vast majority of clothing we have been gifted, my daughter never even had a chance to wear. Most of the things she did wear she only fit in for a week or two...maybe a month, tops. When they grow so fast it just makes more sense to buy second hand clothing. You'll save so much money that way.

Love to recycle and reuse ! I also swap clothes with my siblings kids because hand me downs are great! We buy new for special items but for clothes that are going to be shredded / stained with paint / etc it really doesn’t matter if they are in otherwise decent shape

Yup, I shop almost exclusively on vinted. Only if it’s a gift does she have something new.

@Diana I always wash anything i buy 2nd hand and even new stuff before first wear. You can usually tell from the quality of the bundle if it's coming from a good home and how it's presented. I wouldn't buy a bin bag of clothes for example where you're not shown in the photo what's in the bag.

Almost all of my son’s clothes are secondhand and I don’t feel bad about it at all. It’s a conscious decision because I know that he will never know the difference, he grows out of the clothes quickly, and there’s better things I could spend the money on for our family. It’s also far more environmentally friendly than if everyone bought new clothes for every child.

Vinted is a great place to find 2nd hand clothes and just hunt in charity shops you can find great bargains

Almost all of my daughters clothes are second hand, I get lots of lovely bits in great condition, she has absolutely no idea it’s second hand and it’s so much better for the environment! It seems wild to me to spend lots of money on something that will get ruined and grown out of very quickly.

Like even if you do want to get him some branded stuff. On vinted you can get almost brand new branded stuff for more then 50% less. But I mean I wouldn't even care for branded stuff so much especially when they are very young and growing out of it every few months.

I’ve got everything second hand - cheaper, get great stuff and much better for the environment. Not just clothes. We got new mattresses and a couple of teeters new. Other than that everything was bought second hand or a hand me down. I prefer it that way. We’re on a budget and they grow so quickly. If we have spare money (!) I’d rather spend it on experiences.

I'm based in London and giving away brand new 3-6 months clothes as had lots gifted and didn't get to use them. Would be happy for you to have them if you'd like.

Brand new items for my first child, my second child will probably reuse my first child’s clothes as I bought them in neutral colors
