Low milk supply

Hey mamas! I’m 3 weeks postpartum and I was pumping so much the first 2 weeks and now it’s like I can’t get enough! Any tips or suggestions to build supply up?

Stay hydrated and don’t skip sessions ❤️ milk is still coming in, you will see more soon!

Your body might be regulating to what your baby actually needs! I was pumping a ton in the beginning and had a freezer stacked building up but my body regulated and now I only make what baby needs and a tiny bit extra ( 5 oz ish) per day

@Samantha I went from pumping 10oz to barely getting 3oz I don’t want to put her on formula either but I’m running out of options

Did you have a clogged duct or something? Did you have something that triggered the change? I would try Legendairy supplements, tons of water and coconut water and keep working at it!

How often are you pumping?

I try to pump 3-4 times a day while also breastfeeding. I am trying to drink more water and eat better. I had a clogged duct in the beginning but it went away immediately and was still able to pump while it was clogged. I take prenatals calcium magnesium and zinc to and sunflower lecithin supplements every day.

Is the 3 oz after you’re breastfeeding ? I was on the same boat. I peaked at 1-2 week pp and was getting 7-8 oz from a pump. Now I’m regulated at 7 weeks and only get 3-4 oz but that’s exactly how much my babe eats every time. I only have 5 oz or so extra each day from middle of the night pumping

@Maddie I don’t pump after I feed. Should I? I feel like I’m barely making it by during the day like we went from having extra bottles to barely having enough I feel like she’s still hungry when I breast feed her.

I was just curious if the 3 oz was in replacement of a feed time or post feeding session. Pumping after breastfeeding is called power pumping and a great way to bump up your supply, it’s telling your body you need more. I will say an oversupply isn’t a dreamy situation. My lactation explained it as then you’re tied to the pump and pumping constantly even when baby isn’t feeding. It’s way more demanding on momma and for what? Unless you’re going back to work and need a surplus to get started and through transition or want to work towards ending breastfeeding early then a huge freezer full isn’t necessary or average

If you are nursing then why the pumping?

@Lisa so my husband can feed her when I need to sleep

@Alyssa see that’s where your issue is. At newborn stage if you skip a feed you need to be pumping then, so if baby is having a bottle in the night you need to be pumping at the same time to maintain supply. I would just nurse, that is far more effective.

@Maddie you only make 5 oz a day? Do you supplement with formula?
