Stopping eczema emollient

Having a debate with my partner about treating our LOs eczema. We were given advice from the GP to use emollients on the eczema and dry skin, but my partner is convinced it’s making her skin worse and drier. He thinks her skin would heal and regulate its moisture better without constantly slathering her in greasy emollient (he has eczema himself and so he has a strong opinion). But can all the advice & Drs be wrong?? Thoughts??

Which emollient do you use? We had hydromol for a while and i definitely agree that it dried my son’s skin out so much resulting in his eczema getting worse. We stopped using it completely and started using diprobase which moisturised but didn’t clear his eczema. We’ve just recently been prescribed the 50/50 one which is still greasy but it’s helped a lot more along side the steroid cream we were prescribed by dermatology x

Try a different emollient - we swapped to another one under the guidance of our daughters dermatologist and a nurse at the hospital and it’s much better

@Abbie we have zeroderm, which is pretty much just paraffin.

@Zoe which one was it out of interest?

Every body is different. You can try going without and see if it works. We do use emollients and steroid creams. But my little one has got atopic eczema, and gets flare ups rarely. If we go without anything he gets worse.
