Not talking

Is anyone else’s little ones not talking yet? My little boy will be 2 in november but has a correctional age of 22 months and doesn’t really say many words, he will say a few such as mom, baba, tickle, & well done slightly. When would it be a concern he’s not fully performing sentences or many other words, i try so hard to encourage him

My girl will be 2 in November too. She’s saying some words, likes to repeat after us, but I don’t think I’d expect her to speak in sentences for another 6 months or so. Not sure really, but I’m so not worried as I do compare her to my older daughter which is not good 🙈 my older girl was so much more advanced in e everything! This one is a crazy one! Just carry on doing what you’re already probably, chatting to him, reading etc. That’s all we can do , they’re still so small xx

My son doesn’t say much either, maybe 10 or so words frequently, but he does understand what I’m saying so I’m not too worried just yet, I do feel like boys take a tad longer with their speech!

@Hannah yeah, they say they’re either talkers or walkers and boys walk quicker, but obviously not a rule x

@Patrycja yeah i feel it’s quite difficult not to compare to others babies. I’m glad im not the only one though! x

@Hannah my little boys the same he understands everything you say to him, he’s a babbler mainly and occasionally can make out the word he’s trying to say. A lot of people say boys are lazy they take longer!

50 words by 2 is what is "normal" - but try not to stress about it too much I didnt speak AT ALL until I was 3 (it even says in my red book they thought I was mute) but I can speak perfectly as an adult Speech and language therapies might be helpful and worth asking your hv or gp about if you're concerned xx

My LG has just started last week, she has started repeating words. She under SALT as she had no words at all. The SALT said to be most children have a burst of speak development around 2 -2.5yrs and then again at 3- 3.5yrs. Have a look at the"can do speech therapy" on Facebook and there are so many good SALTS to follow for free content of Facebook, they really help with techniques and ideas on how to engage. Please don't worry though all children are different and develop at different stages, "milestones" are guidelines brought about years and years again based on studies of children, they don't mean anything. X
