Curiosity on metformin

Hey there. I couldn't loose weight since ages and my gynecologist told me during 2nd pregnancy that i have GD again and should be cautious of my insulin levels because diabetes runs in my father side of family. 4 months after birth im still in pre-diabetic range. Doctor told me to take metformin because i was struggling to loose weight and lowering my insulin levels. Is there a link between insulin and weight? Because i noted change in bowl movements, having diarrhea or feeling nausea always. I lost 10lb with this tablet and im unsure if i need to do excerises or just diet and medicine. Was 200lb at delivery and started at 175 for loosing weight. Now im at 156lb. Wanna go down to 120 pre pregnancy weight. Any recommendations on diet or excerise?

Yes, there is a very strong correlation between high insulin levels and weight gain/ trouble losing weight. Insulin is a storage hormone, it stores excess glucose to fat. Reduce your carbohydrates, specifically simple carbs (processed snacks, bread, etc) and not only will you lose weight, you will increase your lifespan

You can have insulin resistance but yes there is a link

High protein, high fiber, moderate fat and low carb. Find your favorite non starchy green vegetables and load up on them

@Razi thanks for information! This is so helpful and motivating. But my appetite is so low that i can't eat anything . What shall i do in this case?

If your appetite is low and you can’t eat anything then you should be losing weight? What ARE you eating? I can provide some recommendations for swaps

Have you been diagnosed with PCOS? If so, and depending on what your doctor says, you can take myo inositol instead of Metformin.

@Razi omelet with tomato spinach n green onion in breakfast with 1 slice bread n tea... and when im hungry i take veg soup or plain rice with curry. I randomly take orange or banana when hungry but can't eat. I lost only 10 lb in 1.5 months

@Kayla no i haven't. But for now i am bleeding 2 times a month from August. idk what to do and is myo inositol otc or prescribed ones? What are they?

Myo inositol is OTC. I would ask for a blood test and ultrasound to check for it. I have Endo and PCOS so sometimes symptoms overlap. Bleeding frequently is a symptom of both though so I'd definitely get checked out for it. It's possible to lose weight but it helps to get the diagnosis to understand how to manage it best for you since it can present itself differently in each person.

I also would talk with your doctor before taking myo inositol to make sure it's right for you.
