Starting solids

My baby was 6 weeks early she’s turned 6 months today and her corrected age is 4 months. A healthcare professional said I should start thinking about weaning her and honestly this thought terrifies me. She’s following her corrected age developmentally. She’s close to rolling over and her head is still alittle bobby when unsupported. She’s not even close to sitting unaided. When did you start weaning your babies? I’m scared she will choke

Every baby is different! I’m no expert but I’d say there’s no harm in waiting until your baby is ready in your eyes? Maybe reassess in a month or two?

My LB was 12 weeks early and I waited until he was ready. I was told I could wean him at 4 months actual (he had BAD reflux) tried it once he was not ready. I waited until he was 5 1/2 months corrected age as his head control was good and he sat well in his high chair. LO doesn't need to sit unaided. They need not to slouch in the high chair. If you think she isn't ready don't start yet. When I started my LB grabbed the spoon and put it straight in his mouth so I knew he was ready, he probably was for a week or so before hand but I didn't want to try any earlier.

@L 💜 I’m definitely waiting I feel like maybe when she’s 5 months corrected I’ll give if a go maybe. But she still slouches when sat up. I have began giving her a spoon to play with and chew haha. She just seems so small to be starting 🥺

@Beth this was my mentality before I had this conversation with them. I was going to use this month to wean onto a bottle (ready for my return to work In January) and then look at solids in a month or so when she would actually be closer to 6 months. But the nurse I spoke to said that it could stump her development if I don’t start at the right time as she would obviously not be gaining weight. I feel like I have to start even though I don’t think she’s ready yet as she’s showing no signs of being remotely interested in foods we eat
