Struggling Mama

My daughter (5, almost 6) has been having such a hard time in school. She’s been on several different medications, currently on focalin. Newest struggle is getting out of the car for school. She has refused to get out of the car 2 days in a row in car rider line, so I have to park and carry her to a teacher for them to take her to class 😓

Can the school not make other provisions for her like later start, different entrance, slower transition into class etc? Get her to at least be happy to go into school and not put so much on you to get her out the car and into the building.

My kiddo is 6 he loves school but also he knows I work and school is his job. For things like that it's the easy way or the hard way and stick to it you give her a choice and it teaches the natural consequences. Do teachers help, I'd make sure that gets worked out she gets picked up and taken out like a child or she gets out and behaves and gets 15 minutes tablet time when home. For us tablet time is a wonderful incentive. ADHD Dude videos on YouTube expand on this question framing and its been a huge game changer. Same thing for us get dressed and eat and get 5 minutes show time if you make the cut off or don't do this on time and get none. Once we have made the choice and stuck to it we have had way less explosive battles.

@Sophie could I ask for that? I am super new to the realm of school and how they handle these situations

@Becca well I’m a teacher and that’s something I would raise and try sort out to help ease the pupil into school life. I am however in the UK so I’m not sure how it works in the US

@Sophie well the worst they can say is no! I just called the school and they said they would have admin call me back. So here’s to fingers crossed 🤞🏻

@Becca well that’s something. I’d just think if they are struggling, that something should be put in place to help them
