Injuries

Does anyone else’s toddler like to injury themselves. (No he hasn’t hurt himself badly). He just enjoys smacking his head into mine and the walls and stuff. Mainly if he’s in trouble or he has to go to bed. He will thrash about and smack his head into the walls or his bed frame. Or he will flail about and smack his limbs into things most of the time it’s for attention and he’s not hurt. I just want to know if this is anything anyone else is experiencing or if it’s something I should bring up to his pediatrician. Also when I see this happening it’s not something I let him do.

I’m experiencing this with my 2 year old when he doesn’t get his way he will throw himself down and smack his head of the floor. When I asked his pcp they said oh it’s just for attention. I’m like well what do I do because that’s not healthy and they said they will out grow it

Glad it’s not just mine lol. My ped keeps saying things like maybe he’s autistic cause he is a late talker too. And I’m like okay that’s fine if he is but I feel like it’s something they’re really just pushing and if he’s throwing tantrums and just not an early talker I don’t think he’s autistic. Cause like he’s so social and so smart and on top of all his other milestones.

Boys are a different breed I swear 😮‍💨 my son yeets himself off of anything and everything. He will sit on the couch and hit his head on the back of the couch just because, loves pinching himself and saying ow, will even pretend to be hurt if I brush past him. Unfortunately it is for attention which normally means I ignore the behavior, but this type of behavior is not the safest to ignore😅

@Caroline Cox my son struggled with talking and he also was in pt because he was behind with his crawling but it depends on the amount of words they r saying like right now my son says over 50 words which would mean he’s not autistic. There is some stuff he does that makes me question things like licks windows and baby gates I’m like dude

Yea so he just started saying like new words. He is prob around 50 words now. He loves so climb things and jump off and I’m like AHHHH STOP. But like he’s doing it safely and makes sure I’m watching first so it’s def for attention. But also like he’s been in speech therapy for over a year now cause when he was a baby he wouldn’t eat solids and his GI Dr referred him for eating/speech therapy which eventually just became speech because he was eating anything and everything in sight. It was like a texture thing tho. And now he’s starting to talk more. Like today we hit a huge milestone we were standing in the kitchen and I usually ask if he wants a snack and he like grunts yes and he said cracker and I was like what? And he said it again and I was like oh my gosh you just said cracker like I heard it. And he said it like 10 more times. And Ik he can talk it’s just a matter of him not wanting to cause he has very good annunciation it’s just like he couldn’t care less about talking.

@Caroline Cox I feel like most 1st kids are “late” talkers. I couldn’t understand anything my first said until he was 2 ish. Now with my 3rd kid I couldn’t get him to stop talking at 13 months lol it all depends on who’s around them to influence them (if there’s no issue of course). He’ll do things in his own time. Don’t let people bully you into thinking there’s something wrong with your kid because they’re not doing xyz at a certain time like the “average” kid.

@Caroline Cox ya my son is the same way for attention. Like we tell him not to do anything and then he’ll laugh and do it again and my son has a texture thing too with certain foods whereas my daughter is like I’ll eat anything and everything. And ya my son knows words like please and help but now he won’t say it he just throws the toys at us.

Yea like until about 3-4 months ago my son was strictly communicating through asl but now he doesn’t shut up. Lol which is awesome but it’s also like there’s nothing wrong with him. But he’s also my first so I’m like well is there something wrong cause I don’t know he’s my first and what else can I do but trust his caregivers (pediatrician, speech therapist, and GI drs). Like idk and everyone is so judgmental these days so thank you guys your comments def passed the vibe check ❤️❤️ I def needed this positivity. I have a younger son who almost died after birth. (He’s totally fine now) but I’ve just had a really rough year and now I’m having health issues due to stress so really I appreciate the kindness. I’m like in tears writing this lol.
