Overwhelming “help” from mothers

Does anybody else’s mom or mother-in-law send just an overwhelming amount of baby reels, articles, statistics, videos, just any kind of information on dealing with pregnancy, labor, or newborn/baby care? I love my mother-in-law but she’s just obsessed with Facebook and endlessly sends me all these reels she stumbles across of what to do, what not to do, how to do, where to do, etc, some of them are birth horror stories that I do NOT want to hear and it’s SO obnoxious and overwhelming lol I’ve asked my husband to tell her to stop and she says she will, but still sends them lol I know she’s just trying to help but it sometimes feels insulting like she doesn’t think I know half of this information. She literally acted like my husband and I didn’t know what a onesie was, and was explaining it to us like it was the greatest thing ever. Like, I’m 32 years old. Your son and I are HIGHLY capable adults. Please leave us alone lol

Oof I can’t relate, but I can understand where that would be overwhelming!

@Delainey it takes ALL my energy not to be kinda snappy with her lol

@Krissy yes that I get! My MIL has put in such a great effort to repair our relationship since we got pregnant. But prior to our issues we’re a little different than this, but still to n so much energy! Good luck! Sometimes “helpful “ is unhelpful! And no one should share horror stories especially if it’s your first.

@Delainey good luck to you too! Mother and daughter-in-law relationships are always tricky. I don’t want to cause problems, but I also have some boundaries, ya know?

@Krissy yes!! Boundaries. And hopefully your husband can help set and enforce those boundaries. That’s a rule in our relationship, your family issues require you to have the conversation. And my family is mine to deal with.

I don’t have any advice but I can definitely commiserate. I got videos on feeding infants from a family member. And my job is literally a feeding therapist (I’m a speech pathologist who specialized in feeding and works in the Nicu helping babies learn to eat) so I think I got this. Explaining a onesie is next level hahaha
