I think my lawyer was around 4k
For a few reasons, I used a not-good lawyer who was affordable and I regretted it. One thing I learned is that the first custody decision is very important because it kinda sets the foundation. It’s hard to get custody orders changed unless something has changed in your kids situation. I’m happy to talk privately.
@Neet I potentially want to fight for sole custody with visitation. His dad lives at his mom’s place which isn’t a safe environment and I don’t trust her with my child. He threatens to take him there all the time and I would like to fight so it’s in writing and it’s out of the best interest for our child.
That may be hard to do on your own but I’m not a lawyer and I don’t want to give you the wrong advice. If this was a domestic violence situation, I’d suggest calling the VA domestic violence hotline and they can connect you to a lawyer who can provide free legal advice.
@Neet There is no domestic violence, just looking for the best interest of our child. Me and baby daddy don’t live together and he keeps insisting he is going to take him to his house with his mom who I don’t trust
Even with a lawyer and my ex going to jail for strangling me he still got visitation. No custody though. Why is his mother unsafe??
