Leaving job

Hi, I’m looking for advice. I’m due back from maternity in 4 weeks but handed my notice in last week due to them rejecting hours and not offering me an appeal and basically saying they have staff already on flexible working so can’t accommodate me. I’ve had an email to say I need to pay back my OMP, but I currently won’t have a job, I’m under infant mental health due to PND, so the stress and anxiety is very high now because I can’t physically afford to pay it back. I’ve accrued 190hrs of annual leave but I need that payment to be there for essentials for baby and to tie me over till I find another job (applying for loads). I’m just looking for some help or advice please. Thank you x

You have to legally work the 3 months to be able to keep your maternity pay. How long is your notice period?

@Joanna it is 4 weeks, I worked 3 years July this year

I'm not sure what advice to give, it's in the contract that you'll have to pay back OMP if you don't return for the minimum term I'm afraid, although it may be able to be in any role within the NHS rather than your original role? But double check that

Speak to your union rep or HRBP. Yes, the contract will say you have to pay it back, but often caveats exist like they cannot make you destitute in recouping the money. You can speak with payroll and arrange a repayment plan. They aren't entitled to just take it out of your money.
