BLW

Hi guys - if you’re doing BLW, how did you manage with the anxiety about baby choking? I’m following solid start website, but even when I’ve prepared the food, I feel worried my LG will choke. For example, we gave toast with smashed avocado today. A bit of toast came off in her mouth, and she struggled with it and kept it on her tongue for ages and then eventually gagged it out. But while it was just in her mouth, I was so panicky! 😱😵‍💫… I want to do what’s best for her, but don’t know how to overcome my nerves. Does it just get better with time?!?

It gets better with time and also doing a baby first aid course helps.

With toast you have to make sure it’s cooked enough to be crumbly. We had the same this morning

There is a great page on FB called Weaning the BLW way. The admins/owners etc are all super informative and there are tonnes of help, advice and ideas on there. My LO gags on pretty much everything and doesn't actually eat much of what I offer, more explores the textures, but as Emma said above, cook and cut things appropriately, have water ready, and as Amy said, do a child first aid course xx My LO choked on her own mucous when as a 5 week old she had such a bad cold she couldn't clear it, we needed an ambulance and all was okay, so please know I very much so understand the fear!
