Screen time suggestion

So I've found a nice option for low stim screen time, animated books on YT! Currently using the Scholastic series (their narrators are awesome) & in Spanish (immersion ftw🙂). Just for reference, these are what we started with: https://youtu.be/Bu3j1nUA1QY?si=UZGTn_9yHxP31QSi https://youtu.be/UjItKaJpLZ0?si=ZPFteJ35xHej8opK Son loves them! Esp the "meow" story lol

Thanks, Jes!

There’s a show on prime called Tumble Leaf, very good show. And bluey too of course, u could translate them to Spanish. But I think where a lot of parents are getting it wrong is thinking that screen time is only good if it is educational. Children do not learn from screen time, it is supposed to be fun and relaxing. And the interactions they have with their parents and people around them is what is educational. But also babies and toddlers up to 5-6 years old should only be learning through play and fun not organized curriculum whether that’s with parents or screen time. And what makes screen time harmful is when they are sitting all day long everyday without having any human interaction. But that’s my take on it. I just don’t like when parents are all stressed about what screen time is good and bad or educational, under stimulating. Like it’s ok for the content kids watch to be a bit light and happy and fun with music, so that they can experience the serotonin hormone.

Personally I would never recommend “educational shows” for toddlers because they learn from play not shows, and often other moms that are very mindful and strict that their kids only watch educational content ask how my daughter talks to well at a young age it because I didn’t force her to watch boring shows that she’s doesn’t want to engage with. I know a show is beneficial for my daughter if she talks to the screen and dances with the characters not if she sits there with her mouth open

@Kelise son LOVES "Kipper" on prime & I totally approve... But Only first 3 seasons are free, rude 😑

@jes I hate when prime does that but I’m sure there are some good recordings of it on Yt, YouTube has everything. Also there’s this woman on YouTube who teaches sign language and that help with my daughters speech for English, and we aren’t learning Spanish yet but ik there was some women that do like the Spanish version of Ms. Rachel. But I think it better just to watch the same shows they already love and translate them to Spanish. And I think it’s probably easier for them to learn Spanish first and then English or the one parent one language. But I do know that learning multiple languages at once can delay their speech just a bit depending on how many languages they are learning but it’s doesn’t mean that the child is delayed as long as they are understanding the languages. But good luck. I’m probably going to start learning Spanish with my daughter here soon.

@Kelise Son knows a few basic signs & uses them but sadly we kinda let the signing go as soon as he was able to better communicate thru speech but I'm trying to pick it back up & learn along w him. Spanish is/was his 1st language & he understands both eng & Spanish equally but is surrounded by almost all eng speakers so I'm trying hard to speak to him in Spanish all day long as most of my family are span speakers. I actually used to think the same thing! But apparently it's a myth that children learning 2 languages at once causes delays- their brains are so receptive before age 3 & it's a perfect time to do so! Here's 2 good sources I found on this: https://doi.org/10.1044/cds20.1.5 https://www.nationwidechildrens.org/family-resources-education/700childrens/2017/12/teaching-kids-a-second-language-can-it-cause-a-speech-delay#:~:text=The%20idea%20that%20two%20languages,are%20learning%20only%20one%20language

@Kelise sorry the 2nd link is Miles long lol
