Tongue Tie

My LO is 10 weeks old and has a tongue tie, we were told that it should not be a problem and can generally resolve itself so, I should not worry about it. However, he has the classic symptoms of it and I would like to get it sorted sooner rather than later. How do I go about this?..... He is also EBF would you recommend going to a BF support group??

Same. Doctors and midwives flatout refused to fix it because I bottle fed him, but if I didn't he would have starved. Literally. He feeds fine but he suffers with a bad latch and general shite that could have been avoided if they just fixed it there and then. 🙄 We went to a private dentist and they quoted us £132 for the procedure, takes literal seconds to do. X

I’ll recommend going to a tongue tie practitioner (look up tongue tie centre and carmelle gentle) as they will help with all the other elements as tone and muscle structures first before just cutting the tie as that is not necessarily what fixes an issue that presents as classic tongue tie. Also an osteopath is good for this.

What are the classic symptoms you're seeing if you don't mind me asking? Asking as my LO has a tongue tie and in the first month we met a lactation consultation and said she didn't need to go through the procedure as she's feeding okay.

Mine had a tongue tie which affected his feeding and a midwife recommended that we see a local frenulotomist who helped us a lot. We had an initial consultation, procedure and two follow up appointments and she was fantastic. Breast feeding improved immediately after having the procedure as he was able to latch properly.

@Sakinah the clicking sound when feeding, his latch can be shallow sometimes, suffers with gas/colic as he swallows a lot of air on the breast as well. Cluster feeds as well and just feeds for short times. I sometimes get sore nipples 😢 I just don't know where to go as GP said it's fine and will resolve itself. I just don't want to encounter any further issues with him due to it 😩 x

@Jodie how old was your LO when you saw the local frenulotomist? Did you go private? X

He was only a couple of weeks old when we went the first time, then she performed the snip a week later at 3 weeks. She was very quick. We did go private but it was definitely worth the investment - no more sore nipples!! x

@Sakinah my son had a tounge tie & when he poked his tounge out it looked like a love heart 😂 but he was feeding fine too so they left it. Hes nearly 8 now x
