I had a homebirth . I had a pool and tens machine . I did find it relaxing in my own home. I did a hypnobirthing course. I made a birthing plan - it didn’t quite go to plan in terms of after birth I did have to go into the nearest hospital because my placenta did not come out and I needed some stitches . I would have gone home after that but they thought baby had sepsis so had to go and stay in the postnatal ward , she didn’t in the end ! But they offered antibiotics to baby which had to be given through a cannula However it was lovely the whole birthing experience and I did have a bottle of moet on ice in my birthing plan :) however we didn’t get that because of the above - had to postpone. If not for above it would have been perfect ! Not everyone has same experience as me after birth and the birth and all of that was lovely xx I would choose a homebirth again - there are risks both ways
I planned for a home birth but I was 2 weeks overdue so I discounted the idea, however the morning I was meeting with the consultant labour kicked in. I spread plastic sheets and an old duvet on the floor and got on with it, it's so much more relaxing hospitals just make me feel so vulnerable at home I felt empowered strangely or maybe it was the fact I only had 45mins of gas and air. Then being in your own home and being left to bond with the noise and lights of other patients is fantastic. The midwives stayed an hour or 2 after birth and left us to it.
My first birth was 2 hours total, my second was 1 1/2 hours, I’m pregnant with my 3rd and am going to do a home birth as myself and the midwives genuinely just don’t think I’ll make it to the hospital anyway I’m planning on having an unmedicated water birth as I never had time for pain relief anyway in my two previous labours other than a little bit of gas and air in my second, I also didn’t need stitches and my placenta came out easily both times I am however prepared to go to hospital if anything goes wrong this time I’d just rather not risk giving birth in the car or car park or hospital corridor because I feel that would be more risky than at home I think if you know your body and know how things go and what to do and expect a home birth isn’t much different to hospital plus home births are technically the norm for women anyway and it’s only in the last few decades that it’s switched to hospitals If you’re low risk, not overdue & don’t have any complications I’d say go for it
Go for it!
My home birth was wonderful and I definitely recommend. Home Birth Support Group UK on Facebook has loads of home birth stories.
I havnt however they gave me an emergency kit due to my oldest only just making it last time. However my daughter was born in her embryonic sac so I’m glad I was in hospital with someone that knew what she was doing.
