How do they diagnose preeclampsia?

I've been having mild headaches over the last few days, vision is a bit funny, my hands are quite swollen, my feet aren't too bad. Had a consultant appointment on Tuesday and the first time round my blood pressure was high, second time it was perfect. Said my urine was perfect too. I've noticed the last week I'm not peeing as much as I was, I haven't been going in the middle of the night, haven't been going right before sleep. I would usually be up 2/3 times a night to pee. The doctor didn't seem concerned whenever my second blood pressure came back normal but I'm feeling a bit uneasy. I don't know if I'm worrying about notning or overthinking or if there's actually something wrong. Obviously I don't want to cause baby or me any harm. I'm taking aspirin as I was high risk for preeclampsia, due to bmi and my mum had it severely with me. I ended up being in the neonatal unit for 2 weeks with the effects from it even though I was born at 41 weeks. So I'm extra cautious about keeping safe.

High blood pressure (usually they will do 3 tests over the space of an hour or so) Protein in your urine that keeps going up Urine sample sent off and PCR done, anything over 30 is usually something they investigate Sudden swelling of hands, feet, legs, face Visual disturbances like black spots and flashing lights Persistent headache that won't go away with paracetamol Epigastric pain, so think just under your boobs and top of your tummy. Particularly on the right hand side. Blood sample sent off and they look at markers to do with kidney and liver function I've been diagnosed since 28 weeks, currently 33. I don't have all the symptoms, in fact I only have the protein, high BP, and PCR over 30. But diagnosed nonetheless as it's better to be safe than sorry. My suggestion is if you are worried then go to triage.

If you’re worried it’s always worth calling triage and getting checked over - I’m surprised they didn’t do blood tests just to be safe with your symptoms. I went in last week with a persistent headache and my BP and urine were both fine but they still did my bloods to be on the safe side!

If you’re having headaches and not peeing as much that’s making me think you’re potentially dehydrated but nobody knows your body more than yourself hun, go to triage to be checked if you’re concerned especially with your risk factors x

@Zöe that's pretty helpful!! Thankyou!!

@Morgan that's what I thought, no harm in getting checked out surely. Better to be safe. I was actually meant to get my bloods taken to review my iron levels but for whatever reason they didn't take them either. Next time I'll see a midwife or doctor is 39 weeks so I'm surprised they didn't take bloods to be safe.

@Megan it does seem like I'm dehydrated but I would drink 3-4 litres a day so I don't think it's the case. I don't want to be a pain and it be absolutely nothing and me just overthinking
