Between 32 and 36 weeks are the most difficult and when most people start to struggle with levels and tolerate less. Xx
@Alana I didn't know that I'm nearly 33 weeks
Your hormones go crazy from 32 weeks onwards making it so much harder to control. One morning a boiled egg could make you Spike, the next day you could eat a slice of chocolate cake and pizza for dinner and be in your limit!! It's so stressful but it's just your hormones.
@Kaylee god I miss cake and pizza
I'm 37 weeks now, and managed pizza and cake a few times now 😅 it gets easier!! My numbers got so much better around 35 weeks. And nearly all are within their limit now
@Kaylee I've been triggered by nearly every carb going. I'm only having small amounts of brown pasta and rice under protest but my dietician is making me
@Holley are you on medication? You NEED carbs. If yours not already on metofrmin or insilin, it might be time to consider it'll x
@Alana no not yet, they wanted me to try out a few more things to keep it diet controlled first. I have emailed my diabetic midwife with my concerns today though so maybe that will be the next step
Have you joined the GD UK website and Facebook group? Are you pairing all your foods etc? Drinking atleast a pint of water with meals? Walking 30 mins after food? If so i don't think there's really much more you can do! X
@Alana yep been doing all of that. I've officially run out of ideas
If they sugeest medication it's not as bad as you think . I started off with diet then moved to 2x metformin on an evening, and now have 2x metformin and 4 units slow release insulin every evening. It's just my fasting levels that are tricky ,though. After meals ones seem fine provided I do all the tips, so far! Although I have had a few spikes here and there from foods I've previously tolerated!
Also echo the comments about how GD can be progressive for some people and they say weeks 32-36 are the hardest. Check out the GDUK website if you havnt already. It can be a very difficult condition and have an emotional impact. Hang in there, you’re trying your best 💜
Just want to say I totally sympathise! Im 34 weeks on insulin 4 x a day and my fasting levels are getting worse and finding it hard to keep on top of my blood sugar levels after meals. I eat barely anything as well! There’s a good GD support group on Facebook which is the official UK GD support group which I’ve found helpful :)
Well just had a call from the team after my last lot of sugars, onto the metformin folks

@Holley good luck .I hope it helps ! X
I had a similar situation. I am now 34 weeks pregnant, tried dietary and lifestyle changes after my first meeting with consultant. Everything worked perfectly fine for the next 2-3 weeks and then onwards, the spikes are totally uncontrollable. I had a breakdown wondering what's wrong with me and why things are not working my way. Later my sister(consultant) told me that it's not my fault, in some ppl it could be controlled with lifestyle changes and in others it won't. Also as the week's progress, there is a chance for sugar levels to spike up. Currently on insulin 10units and might need to increase the dosage as still there are occasional spikes. Please be open to medication and ask for what's best for you.
