Has anyone bought & used this & had any issues with conceiving/issues with fetus?

The reviews for this top coat nail varnish is really good. Apparently it helps your varnish last longer & keeps it from chipping. I bought it, excited to use it & then see a warning on the side that it can cause birth defects or reproductive harm.. Like, WTF? So I'm considering returning it but just wanted to see if anyone had issues with it.. I looked online & people said that a lot of products from California has that warning & they ignore it.. Thoughts please? 🫣

Wow no have never seen that but I would definitely return it. I mean what is in that stuff it needs that warning?! I’d rather have chipped nails! Must be a safe alternative.

I’ve used that top coat for years, it’s amazing.

Yeah California law is wild, there’s warning labels even in public areas like Disneyland about risks for everything! It’s because of crazy lawsuits out there and just liability being needed for everything.

it does make you wonder šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚

yikes😬.. That is wild!!
So you've used it & didn't have any issues with conceiving or issues with baby?

Avatar

I used this top coat during all my pregnancies and my children are 9, 5 and 2 weeks old. They've never had any issues. Inalso use this top coat over acrylic nails but I don't know if that makes a difference really. I could suggest other top coats if you're really uncomfortable with this one. I've been doing my own nails and have been in the nail scene (it's huge and wild lol) for 15 years.

All my suggestions though would be indie brand nail polish though so it would be a little more pricey than seche vite. The other mainstream brand top coat that's good and quick drying is essie good to go

Avatar

Yeah used it for years now as it’s 100% cruelty free and not sold in countries that require animal testing like China. Chip free and longer stronger nails (I have a hard wearing job that butchers my hands).

I Conceived both babies first cycle and both perfectly healthy.

The issue is, if there is a product/ingredient that the CDC can link to any health condition, California law means anything made or sold there needs the label.

It’s a chemical called toluene, it’s in most nail varnishes worldwide including here in the uk/europe. We just don’t label everything up like California do. The FDA says that the chemical is safe in nail varnishes as the amount is SO low, but Cali law is crazy and must label it.

Avatar

thank yooou for the recommendationšŸ˜ŠšŸ’–.. Is the Essie as good as Seche? 🫣

Avatar

ohh, so it's likely I've already come in contact with that chemical as I usually get my nails done (UK based).. Thank you for the informationšŸ’– It's interesting how these things work lol

Avatar

It's a good top coat but I've found it's not as shiny as seche vite.

Avatar

Yeah, if you are uk based and get your nails done you’ve most likely had it in brands like DND, CND, OPI! It’s just a common ingredient in varnishes, nail glues, paints in general x

Avatar

alot of nail polish doesn't contain toluene anymore and if it does they are required to disclose that they do

Avatar

ooo didn’t know this. Tbh we don’t tend to have safety labels on our products like I’ve seen in the US so maybe they aren’t labelled up. I know OPI had it until recently cause I did read online about it but our varnishes have no otherwise obvious safety label

Avatar

@Sarah oh gotcha! Yeah here in the US most brands are 3, 5 or 7 free. There's higher numbers as well but honestly, people can list random ingredients that aren't even in polish as part of their X-free label. It's really silly honestly. I've even seen brands claim 21 free and I literally don't even know what that could mean lol

Yea if it’s the proposition 65 one they have that at McDonald and Taco Bell in California so if that puts you at ease at all.
