Going into labor before a scheduled c-section?

Did this happen to anyone with any of their pregnancies? This is my second. I had an emergency c- section with my first, so opted for a scheduled c-section for this one at 39 weeks. I'm 37+5 and started having contractions at 37+3. My doctor said if I went into labor early, they can still do a c-section. I'm wondering when I can be admitted though. She said follow the 511 rule (5min between contractions, 1min long, for 1 hour) but it seems odd to make it that far just to have a c-section. I see my OB in two days and will call labor and delivery sooner if my water breaks or I lose my mucus plug.

So mucus plugs can reform. Last August I had a planned c section on the 11th but I actually went into labor the day before and no one believed me even though I was on the monitors. I labored 7 and a half hours then finally they prepped me and baby was born shortly after mind you hubby was sleeping when I was having back labor.

@Joy Yes, I do know that. It's more that I'm trying to figure out what criteria will make them do the c-section earlier. So they wanted you to labor that 7hrs or you asked to? Cause I just read some doctors like you to dilate before a c-section because it helps with bleeding, but I'd never read that before tonight.

I had real contractions inconsistently for about 3ish weeks before my water broke at 37w6d. I went in and they confirmed that it broke and just waited for surgery to happen a couple of hours later. Nothing was a rush, thankfully and the contractions weren’t too bad. I’ve now had 2 prior csections.

I did have a scheduled csection at 39w3d.

@Samantha I didn't want to they wanted me to

I went into labour in work, 10 days before my section. I was told not to wait, just to come straight in. I was prepped for theatre and monitored whilst I waited for an empty theatre slot. Had my section that evening.

There are real benefits for the baby to go into labor naturally before a C-section - mainly that the contractions help squeeze the excess fluid out of their lungs so there’s less of a likelihood with breathing issues when they’re born. I had an emergency C-section with my first and was in labor for like over 24 hours and someone sent me the research on the benefits and it made me feel so much better about all that pain I endured 🤍

I experienced this with my first. I just hit 38 weeks and the OB not even called the L&D for scheduling me for the elective C-section even though I already told her I have false contractions since 36 weeks on and off. They only told me to go directly to the L&D once I feel another contraction and told them I’ve booked C-section. I went to the hospital with 3cm dilatation and regular contraction. When I came in the L&D staff told me I’m not on the list and I ended up waiting 7 more hours for the operation room.

Update: my OB said as long as I start having regular contractions, even if they're 15min apart, I can go in for a c-section.
