I would say not to do that. Draw up the meds fine but that’s where your involvement should stop. Better safe than sorry and I’m surprised it isn’t in the risk assessment. When I worked on the wards, anyone pregnant were given the option of basing off ward and supporting with more administrative bits
Rapid tranq was never mentioned in our risk assessment specifically but we weren’t to get involved in any situation involving violence and aggression so given that it’s under restraint it was understood a pregnant nurse would not be present unless absolutely necessary. For example observing a preceptor nurse but once medication was administered the pregnant nurse would leave immediately
Thank you ladies🥰
If your pts being restrained physically and chemically they’re posing a risk of significant harm. Avoid at all costs. If you want/need to help document who’s where for the incident report and coordinate the debrief after 😊. I’d advise against drawing up too because then you may be inclined or encouraged to administer it. If they were to break out of it you’d be putting yourself, baby and colleagues at risk. It can be soo tricky with staffing though and when you’re used to responding 😞. I can totally get how you’d find yourself in that situation. I think a chat w your manager is needed. Sounds like the risk assessment needs updating for yourself and others in the future. I work in a MSU and very soon after disclosing my pregnancy was made office based x
I suppose there’s always a risk of something going wrong when a restraint is happening. I personally wouldn’t have done it as I would have been putting my safety at risk and maybe that’s why your colleagues felt that it was wrong. I would probably speak to your manager about it. When I was pregnant i wasn’t allowed to be part of any restraints early on as well as putting myself in any sort of situation which could affect me. By 20 weeks they took me off the floor and had me doing non clinical stuff
