Is this okay

So, I’ve bought my daughter a pram for her main present for Christmas and then the MIL turns up with a pram🙃 Does this sound okay or too confrontational?

Probs a bit too harsh, maybe go with a simpler one of “thanks so much for the pram its a lovely present, unfortunately I have already bought one so needed to check if its possible to return the one you kindly got us, and we can then get something else for baby?” And then you can put a list together of things the baby needs? I dont think shes overstepping, its a kind gesture by an excited grandma so it should be treated like such imo, just kindly redirect her to a registry

The problem with presents are they are usually a surprise for the parents as well. Personally I wouldn’t say anything. Thank her and you can still give the pram at Christmas or get something else. Haven’t really heard the concept of main presents before or off limit presents from people I.e mum and dad presents only. It’s frustrating that you’ve bought one and she’s now already got one but I think it’s a situational that is accident and there is no malice behind it. Mointoring what presents are given comes across a bit ungrateful and causes stress for you . If it’s a toy pram it’s not fair to take away from your daughter. If it’s an actual baby pram just use the one you have and maybe the other can be at nanny’s house for when she has the baby?

I wouldn’t say the bit about a pram being the kind of thing the mum and dad get because you are basically telling her she’s done something wrong which really she hasn’t. I’d be quite happy with my parents buying that kind of present. Personally id just say thanks for the pram, we had already got one for Christmas so could you just let me know before you buy anything else to make sure we don’t clash? And leave it at that. Yes it’s gutting but not worth causing a family feud over.

Nothing wrong with your message. Honesty is the best policy and you need to set clear boundaries x

That's not harsh at all, that's a very nice message. My mum and I got loads of bits for bubba when I was pregnant, and my partner's mum didn't understand that I had things already, until I showed her & she fully said to my mum "well maybe you can stop now, so I can get something too" but her tone was off massively.

Can it be a pram you keep at her house? I don't think it's as deep as your making out. However, I do understand your point.

It's a pram for who? Like a toy or an actual pram?

@Reena oh good point. I just assumed it was a toy pram!
